favourite kind of alcohol

Because many studies consider it healthy, if do prefer red wine when I have a choice of colour; otherwise, I prefer white for the sweeter taste.

It took me so long to appreciate beer (and I started with Canadian ) that I never really had the occasion to taste it fully.

What kind of alcohol do you prefer?

PS to smartass chemists: i mean ethanol

I grew up on beer and it's basically against the law not to drink beer in Australia, but I have been known to have my fair share of spirits and hard liquors from time to time.

I used to be very partial to rum but there was an incident and I can't stomach it anymore. Never could really stand the taste of beer so that's out. However Tequila I'm more than happy to partake of.

Beer, and I'm not all that picky, but I prefer Guinness, Blue Moon or Shiner. I have never really cared enough to become much of a beer connoisseur, though I do like buying random imports from time to time just to taste what's out there.

It's usually beer for me. My favourite types are stouts and ambers. Brown beer is sometimes pretty good too. As for harder stuff, the only type I buy is cognac. if I'm offered a shot of something else I'll usually take it, but cognac is by far my favorite.

Haha, that's good.

I prefer Absinthe when I am playing drinking games with other members of my intellectual elite group or vodka mixed with strawberry juice (which is not as exciting as with absinthe but it's okay if you don't have too much time, if you know what I mean). I also like vine because in casual places like restaurants (good restaurants) and casinos, you cannot drink Absinthe or vodka mixed with pineapple juice, so look, it is all about being versatile

Orange/Blue Curacao. I have a ton of drink recipes that use it, and I just absolutely love the stuff!

That, and Rootbeer Schnapps. Making Rootbeer floats with it is nice.

Buddy showed me jager/gold schlager combos, and I'm in love. I can shoot those with jager bombs all night long.

While I can drink beer if I have to (friends want to go to a beer-only bar), I prefer the hard stuff. Vodka, Rum, Whiskey. Mostly because you can almost always find something to mix with it. Nooooo tequila though. I am not a fan of tequila.

I've been a wild rover for many's a year and I spent all me money on whiskey and beer

That's basically it. I'm known for Jameson on the rocks or a heavy beer of some sort (always trying out new ones). I'm really not a fan of mixed drinks unless they have whiskey in them. Jager bombs are usually a good time though.

While everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

I'm a gin fiend myself. I can drink gin and tonic like it's water all night long. Apart from that I've a preference for whiskey. If it's single malt then it's fine by itself. Otherwise coke does it well (then again, coke and any spirit does well).

I prefer white wine to any other, but I've been known to drink red from time to time. And as for beer, anything goes if it's all that's available. Basically I'm an alcohol slag.

a couple more for breakfast/ a little more for tea/ just to take the edge off/ just to take the edge off

I'm saddened by this not being a multiple choice poll. I like my beer, either Finnish cheap watery bar lager or dark Real-European beer, it doesn't really matter. But as much as that, I like red wine, when I can afford a decent bottle of it. Or a glass of house red at a jazz bar, or something like that.

I'm not that much into the hard stuff, but won't unfortunately say no to any sort of flavoured ethanol. See what I did there.

My favourite drink when I'm out at a pub is a well mixed Manhattan. The catch there being that it's damn near impossible to get a decent fucking Manhaattan anymore. Ridiculous.

I do, however, work at an award winning brewpub and have been learning from the brewmaster (if I get to level 20, I learn real magic) so I have a very healthy love for beer. I have a special love for stouts, especially the really dark variety (see Dortmunders, Guinness or Guinness knock-offs, chocolate stout etc), red ales, and well done fruit ales. Though my ultimate weakness is mead. I can't stop drinking the stuff. It is absolute ambrosia to me.

In terms of wines, I know my stuff fairly well, but I'm no sommelier. My personal favourites are a well done Pinot Noir, preferably from the Burgundy region in France (see the problem with loving Manhattans), or a Shiraz. My palate doesn't pick up on whites as well, though I'm fairly good with ice wines, Pinot Gris (really more of a light red) and Pinot Blanc. The problem with Noir is that when it's less than fantastic, it's shit. But when it's at its best, it is the best in the world. Incredibly lively flavour.

Now, if I'm just kicking around the house, I tend to be a gin and lime drinker. Though I also have a love for northern Irish whiskey. Especially Jura Superstition. And my love for Absinthe is pretty well known around here.

In short: Make your poll multi-selection.

And though we are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are---
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I prefer hard liquor to anything else, and I prefer scotch, gin, and tequila. Gin and tonics are the standby, usually, unless I'm ordering a margarita. I'm recently in love with something called a "snake bite": about 60/40 tequila and Rosa's lime juice. Lovely. The scotch is usually on the rocks, though occasionally neat.

If I have to drink beer I generally only drink imports. If I have to drink wine I generally go with white or rosé, because reds give me an awful stomach ache.

I've already confessed to being a lightweight; I don't think too much of getting drunk. It's okay once in a great while but otherwise I prefer to be in greater control.

Casual drinks are perfectly fine, however. I've grown a dislike for beer. A few brands are satisfactory, mostly the pale ales, but the rest don't do anything for me. I'm not much of a mixed drink person either, it's just too much fuss.

What I like is the simple stuff, right from the bottle. A shot of vodka, rum, scotch or tequila. Give me a few of those and I'll be as happy as anyone else in the room. I'm seemingly immune to alcohol burn (I sampled a bit of straight absinthe and it wasn't as rough as some folk suggested) so downing the liquor straight works just fine for me. Mixing the alcohol first seems a tad pointless since it all mixes in the stomach anyhow.

Last week, a couple friends invited me to tour the wine country of central New York along the Finger Lakes. I only like sweeter wines, but I did find a few bottles that were worth purchase. Wine, for me, is a celebratory drink, so I purchased with that in mind. So I now have two bottles of blackberry mead wine, a muscat wine and two bottles of chocolate red in a makeshift rack inside my closet. Given a couple years to age, they'll be pretty good. I don't know much about wine but it's something I could probably get into.
Too weird to live, too rare to die.

Alcohol, my permanent accessory
Alcohol, a party time necessity
Alcohol, alternative to feeling like yourself
O Alcohol, I still drink to your health.

Asking me to pick a favorite drink is just plain silly. Lately it's been all White Russians and G&Ts, but I'm about due for a change. For the longest time I drank Scotch and nothing else (except a teaspoon of water), and before I started quoting the Big Lebowski and having Gin and Tonic mornings I was sampling different brews from all over the country.

I can't pick a favorite, but the most common drink to see me with, whether when the sun first comes up or starts to set, is a hoppy concoction.
