I gotta disagree. It just tarnishes the whole thing. Controversy is nice, yes, but not for the final game. It diminishes the importance and just mucks it up. I personally wouldn't want to fight my way through a whole tournament only to have it damaged by some idiot who feels the need to start shit. Fans don't want that either.

I'm sorry, but what Zidane said was in no way arogant. It's called a joke you silly bugger. There's no need to insult him because of it.

Hmm....This should be interesting, to say the least. I mean, Materazzi isn't exactly the nicest player on the italian team. And this isn't like Zidane at all. They'll have a hard time proving the case for Zidane though.
WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

headbutting someone in the chest isn't like Zidane? What have you been watching? He's headbutted players before and stomped on them... and been ejected then too. The only thing that makes this different is that a) it's his final match, b) it was a title match, and c) there might have been something to actually provoke this one (not sure on the previous outbursts)...

Yeah, that's what I mean. It isn't like him to pull something like that on something that meant so much to him. Previous games, okay, but the World Cup Final? No way in hell that's Zidane.

I think the fact he was provoked is pretty clear. I doubt Zidane was running along when he thought "Hey, headbutting this guy seems like a good thing to do right now."

I just wonder if Materazzi meant to piss Zidane off or just wasn't thinking about what he was saying.

Tomorrow night (French Time) Zidane said he will explain himself.

Doubt someone says something like "your mother's a terrorist," (or whatever he said) if Materazzi didn't mean to piss off Zidane. That's what an insult's meant to do.

Yeah that's him. He always seemed to have a really clear limit to what he accepted to take and what he did'nt.

New footage: looks like a pretty long insult ... also, Zidane is smiling at him and doesnt look arrogant, to me ...

Exclamation Huh?

Hmm... from that angle it *does* look like a long insult, in fact, it looks like Materazzi was *really* trying to piss him off. It can't be as simple as he said, a simple insult from the heat of the game... I can't defend that! Now I really want to know what he said.

But taking the trophy from Italy... hahahaha! Good one! I'd kill Blatter if that were to happen. They might as well take the fifth trophy from Brazil for having won it on such a lousy World Cup.

And what is that about *Germany* deserving the trophy!? I mean, whyyy? If the cup was to be taken from Italy, it should go to France. Why Germany? Reliving old times? France said, "it's ours!", but Germany invaded them and took it from them. If they wanted the cup, they should have played better... Looking at it that way, why not give it to Portugal? Sheesh... to Germany...

I'll try and translate the video. My portuguese isn't great though, but here goes:

"...an inexplicable attitude. He (Zidane) is being covered by Materazzi, and they start to have an argument. Not in a vehemently angry way, until whatever makes the Frenchman, who speaks good Italian, explode. And, using his head, he decides the outcome of his World Cup."

Just watched the interview Zidane just gave on French TV. He said the insults were about his mother and sister and were repeated 3 times.

He presented his apologies to everyone especially the children, but said he didnt regret his act, as it would justify Matterazzi's attitude. He explained that as a father, he tries to teach his kids both to avoid violence if possible but to not take shit from anyone either.

There will still be a Fifa inquiry.

Does anyone have a link to this interview, or know if it's available? I know my entire family in the US is on pins and needles wanting to hear what he has to say about it.

Its a case of he says she says, Zidane can say whatever he wants but its his word against Materazzi and thus because of that FIFA probably won't take any action at all.

Don't get me wrong I sympathize, but overall why should it make a difference, players throw insults at each other all the time on the football field, insults that are 10 times more uglier and they let it slide, regardless of what was said if Zidane lost his cool thats his own fault, its not the first time either.

Haha, I just read this on a German newspage:

Quote:
Malika daraufhin mit den Worten: "Wenn er das wirklich gesagt hat, möchte ich seine Eier auf dem Tablett serviert haben." Sie sei stolz darauf, "dass er die Familienehre verteidigt hat".
Rough translation: Malika (Mother of Zidane) said: "If he (Materazzi) actually said that (that she is a whore), I want his balls served on a plate (sic!). I am very proud of my son because he defended the honor of the family".

Haha, what a kick-ass mom.

Well, as the host, I never wanted them to win in the first place, and after they eliminated Argentina, I liked them even less... but no, no hate. I cheered for them in the 2002 World Cup.

It doesn't mean anything they beat Portugal, what I mean is they were both contestants for the third place. So wanting them to get the Cup would mean ignoring the fact that, after Italy, France deserves it, not Germany.
