Welcome to the Gamingforce Interactive Forums.
GFF is a hellhole full of elitists who chat about everything EXCEPT games. We have a team of dedicated moderators who will ban your ass on the slightest provocation, constant member-organized activities that you are not allowed to participate in, and plenty of custom features, including our unique journal system where you can post entries that will be completely ignored. If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ or our GFWiki. You will have to register before you can post. Although membership is completely free (and gets rid of the pesky advertisement unit underneath this message) we do not recommend that you sign up, because you will get kicked in the nuts repeatedly.

the flag-bearer's burden

Jeux Olympiques de Pékin : L'unilinguisme du porte-drapeau canadien critiqué | National | Radio-Canada.ca

What it says: SOme people are complaining about Canada's choice for the flag-bearer for the BEijing games because he doesn't speak any French in an officially bilingual country. I admit that it does neglect over 30% of the population (by including the ones who understand the language), but Canada is primarly an English country...

Does the flag-bearer really has to represent the culture of his country? For example: does the flag-bearer of Belgium has to speak Flemish and French? and the one from Switzerland speak all four languages? and the one from New-Zeland speak Maori also?

Of all the fucking obvious things that are obscenely vile about the Beijing Olympics: a man with a purely decorative physical task doesn't speak French. The Quebecois: whining nonstop since 1867.

This is a trick question. None of the answers are near correct. And language is only a small part of culture. It shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Also.

Actually, nothing. Canada sucks.

Oh, be fair. Quebec is only technically part of Canada.

It's true. The rest of Canada resents Quebec's existence as much as we, members of the free world, do.
