Happy Birthday Canada!

I am PROUD to be Canadian. I say Eh - although a lot more then you all think. I LOVE hockey, but enjoy most other sports as well. I am kind, and courteous, and put others before myself... Unless it comes to hockey. I have ridden, and repaired a snowmobile, eaten "fresh" moose meat, lived in a town of less than 100 people way up north, seen the northern lights, drank more then a twofer in a sitting. Drove 50km to play shinny hockey at 2AM the night before finals. My ears perk and I get all antsy when I hear the old HNIC theme song, I planned my wedding around the Stanley cup finals.

So we have higher taxes, at least I can wait in any emergency room I want, rather then run around trying to figure out insurance first. It may not be perfect, but I love it. I think that it's great that it is not ridiculously expensive to go to University, and that most of it is is subsidized by the government.

I love how I can walk down the street, and talk to all of my neighbors, how every so often they will give me food from their gardens, even though I have nothing to give back to them.





And one final, very important thing - God bless our troops, at home and abroad. You are all truly heroes - and I pray for the day that we stop crowding the bridges along the 401 from Trenton to Toronto to watch our brothers and sisters come home.

When a Canadian Soldier dies, they are repatriated and taken to CFB Trenton, and then travel along Highway 401 (The Highway of Heroes), to Toronto where the Morgue determines cause of death. On every overpass, every street corner, and along the sides of the road - it is lined with regular people, with no relation to the soldier who died, except being Canadian. This was never planned, never organized - it just happened, and still does - it doesn't matter if it is 30°C and blue skies, or -30°C and in the middle of a blizzard.
