Will internet finally take our real life?

Ok, just yesterday I read some interesting stuff in Business Week about a MMORPG called "Second Life" the most notable notion is, the user in this game actually copyrighted the stuff they made in game and they could actually make money from that!

Well what do you say about this phenomenon? I mean, the existence of this game actually blurs up the line between life and virtual reality.

A Chinese teacher living in german also wants to make her own currency, a counterpart from the linden dollars. I think this game could represent how we, modern humans are so attached to internet and cyberspace.

If not, and I have a feeling thar a few people can't, then you're stuck in the boat of having to get up to sustain yourself. Sucks, doesn't it?

People have been making money selling Everquest items and characters for years, this is hardly news.

I think it's just proof that geeks have nothing better to spend their money on.

They do similar things on some sites like Habbo. Frankly, until I can pull a Mustang out of my printer or an expresso out of my USB port, then I don't think that this idea will take over our lives...at least not for a LONG while. After all, it's just virtual.

Too bad Second Life is a retarded piece of shit and only asians play it.

It doesn't surprise me that you could copyright the stuff you make in a game. If you design something of a unique nature, you should be able to copyright the intellectual rights to it. Of course, this doesn't mean that everybody will use it.

As for the woman who wants to start her own currency, ultimately it will only impact her and those who wish to transact with her. When playing a game of Monopoly, monopoly money becomes the universal game currency. It is used to record the exchange of power and to measure the strongest to weakest competitors of the game. The fact of the matter is the impact outside of the actual game will only immediately affect the participants of the game, and the only ripple effect on the global economy is money is circulated in such a small amount that it will have no impact on the value of universal currency.

GFF is an obvious example. I used to be able to go on the computer every 3 or so days, but recently, there hasn't been a day where I haven't turned it on. Check GFF for messages, check my mail, see who's online, check if there are new anime releases, check if there are new anime songs released, etc. That's the bulk of my daily routine. I don't even watch TV anymore because the net usually holds something more fun to read or watch!

So the internet really has stolen my life, but I still go out of the house whenever possible: to keep searching for a job, meet friends, enjoy the day, etc. Internet can't steal my gummy bears either!

Yes, but I do not have a job, a social life, friends, sex partners, chores, a hitlist, or school. I have nothing to do BUT browse the internet.

When I actually had real things to do in life, I did them, and maxed out at like 3-5 posts per day on GFF.

I've read several articles on "gold" farming in China, where rich guys basically hire out cheap labour for people to collect items on games such as World of Warcraft.

Second life is a good way of putting internet in general. It is an escape, and we all realize this.
