I sadly have to agree. Between BSC and SAUS, it seems there's just too much listening to do.
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

Well, we're moving into Round 3 of the BSC, so at this point, most people know which songs they like and don't need to spend hours listening.

But 512 songs in the SAUS is a lot. And Pang's posting them in an odd pattern, so it could take a while to get through the first round there.

Week 99 is a logical point to leave off for a bit, I suppose. I'm finding myself a bit overwhelmed with the SAUS, too. I like the idea, but I don't think that launching it during the BSC was such a hot idea.

Besides, it'd give more time to figure out if Darkcomet72's nom is eligible.

There is a ton of stuff to listen to right now. Not to mention, a couple albums I've really been anticipating have just come out too, plus another site I go to tried starting their own game music contest (lol, lots of mainstream stuff, but because I kept throwing out GFF style obscurity opinions, there's actually a fair amount of unknown stuff there too). I am perfectly fine with delaying this a little to let everyone catch up.

Tough call. Nothing really had a clean cut call for 2nd and 3rd. Lots of enjoyable pieces this week though.

Wasn't feeling some of the middle stuff for the Elebits piece, but it has a really charming feel to it.

No disrespect to Muppet RaceMania, as I'm completely ignorant of the game quality (looks like a Mario Kart knockoff), but one can't help but feel that a very well-written piece like that one was potentially "wasted" on a very off the radar children's game.

Spider-Man 3's was a pretty true-to-form film score piece, and more importantly very authentic in terms of the feel of the Spider-Man movie scores. If I found out later it was actually arranged from the movie score, I wouldn't be surprised.

I thought the Sorcerian and Back in Time pieces did a great job remaining engaging. Longer pieces actually have a lot tougher time staying interesting with me.

"Just Bourbon" was just boring. 375 Kg was awful, and I don't even have a bias against metal. :-D

3 points: Symphony Sorcerian - The Ice Cave 'Cave I' ~ The Head of Medusa 'Forest' ~ King Dragon ~ Ending I
2 points: Back in Time II - Galway Is God 2000
1 point: Spider-Man 3 (Game Rip) - MJ Thrill Ride
Very Close: Muppet RaceMania (Game Rip) - Rooftops
Close: Elebits (Wii Game Rip) - Extras Mode

3 points - Gallaway is good
1 point - Extras Mode
1 point - Just Bourbon
1 point - Rooftops

Gallaway was the only really good track this week. The other three I gave points to were average. The rest were pretty boring...and don't get me started on the 375 kg pile of crap which was most likely a gag nomination.

Here's my next nom for the century week.

* Artist: Motoi Sakuraba
* Album/Game Title: FZ Series AXIS
* Track Title: After the War (arranged)
* Disc Number: 1
* Track Number: 6
* Catalog Number: TOCT-5931
* Year: 1990
* Source(s): http://www.squareenixmusic.com/albums/f/fzaxis.html

I'd personally object to the latest nomination. An almost indentical version of it placed 2nd in Week 39: Super Turrican (Game Rip) <Chris Hülsbeck> - Level 1-1. I even remember that it was mrman who nominated it, and he even included this currently suggested nomination as extra download. IMO it isn't much different, maybe a bit prettier and more fleshed out, but doesn't go much above the original version in terms of reinterpretation (or something like that), hence I discourage this nomination.

I might might might object to this, maybe. This is an arrangement of the stage 1 theme of Dragon Spirit (and a rather good one too that I'd never heard before). In Week 47, another arrangement of this track, virt's "Wings of Gold" from VGMix, was nominated but failed to place. There's arrangement going on in both, so there are similar parts, like the main melody line, but you can't really line the tracks up against each other like you could Super Turrican stage 1-1 and whatever your previous nomination was (Bionic Action from the "soundtrack" CD?).

Just thought I'd throw that one out there. Arrangements of tracks that have already appeared in SotW is an issue we've never really had to figure out how to deal with. I'm not trying to pick on you, really.

3 points - Galway Is God 2000
This one was was purely epic. The entire thing was powerful and moving.
2 points - MJ Thrill Ride
This was was calm and peaceful, yet it also had a fast, exciting section. Definitely a quality track.
1 point - Rooftops
This was just fun to listen to. It really felt like I was leaping across rooftops.

I understand not wanting the same song to appear in SotW twice, but these are much different arrangements. And the first was a VGMix (which was only allowed because virt is a vgm composer); this is from an actual game. And as you said, "Wings of Gold" didn't even place.

I was thinking about this more, and I realized, "hey, we allow whole tracks that have been nominated before to be nominated again if they haven't placed, right?" And certainly, letting in an arrangement of a track that hasn't placed is no worse on the notability scale than letting in a track that hasn't placed, at least assuming adequate time has passed. Week 47 was quite a while ago, so I retract any objection.

It seems like a good idea to let people know that it's an arrangement, at least, since more often than not that leads to a nomination change.

Also, could we please get a few more votes so we can put this week to bed eventually?
