Reason: deathsmiles Game Rip version replaced with OST version
|
|
Is it considered cheating to link to the OST version of the Death Smiles track? It's the same song, it just doesn't sound like it was recorded by holding a tape recorder to the arcade machine.
|
|
I also recommend substituting the Game Rip version with the OST version. The Game Rip is rather poor. If the OST version were in there on the week voting took place, I likely would have ranked it higher. See, this is why I tell people to wait for the OST version when nominating.
Additional Spam: OK, actually I just realized I didn't vote that week. But my point stands.
site links = kg13, song of the week, backloggery, gff-socal, xbox live | my game music rips = meteos, future tactics, seal online
hosted rips = advance wars: days of ruin, dragon valor, jet moto 1&2, kirby air ride, ratchet & clank ( )

I'm glad it won the week on compositional merit, being as poor in audio quality as it is! Even though it wasn't my nomination, it's definitely something I would've nominated at some point.
Anyway, here's the OST version: Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Download link |

I've had the OST version for a while (pretty damn awesome soundtrack) and been meaning to update that copy on the site, but I've just been too lazy to get around to it. I guess I'll do it in a little bit.
There's an Umihara Kawase combined soundtrack coming out next month, so whenever a rip of that pops up (possibly from me because I am buying that CD so fast) I'll update that track I nominated from Umihara Kawase Shun too. Additional Spam: Done! |
|
Orion's post has been updated too. Grab the new version, everyone!

Battle Weeks are always easier, especially when 2 belong to you.
2 points: deathsmiles original sound track <Manabu Namiki, Noriyuki Kamikura> - Burning Halloween Town - Stage A-1, Staff 2 points: Sekaiju no MeiQ Super Arrange Version - Battle - Destruction Begets Decay 1 point: Guwange / ESP Ra.De. Original Soundtrack - [Underworld Cherry Blossoms] - Stage 3 1 point: Seal Online (Game Rip) - Across The Misty Forest |

All these tracks are kinda... I don't know, bland? They don't really sound like winners to me. Well, with the exception of the Death Smiles track which is freakin' fantastic.

I didn't even know we had a Song of the Year Results page on the wiki until today. It was only complete through Bracket A in the first round so I filled in the rest of it. Relive the memories and recall just how terrible all you people are for not putting any of my first place winners into the second round.
Also just a reminder that we're doing double weeks for the BSC, so no rush in getting those votes in if you want to vote in the prelims (so go vote in the prelims (for Daytona)). |

Solid bunch of winners
www.frankklepacki.cøm - Zanthia's Funky Swamp <<1 point>> This is, frankly, a great track that combines the funkiness of Frank Klepacki's style the strength of his atmospheric music. It's top performed and with stellar sax solos too. Very enjoyable and profesional. deathsmiles original sound track <Manabu Namiki, Noriyuki Kamikura> - Burning Halloween Town - Stage A-1, Staff Probably the battle winner, but not one of my favorites. It is excellently developed, but the loop is hardly 1:15, and while there is enough substance, I feel like something is lacking. The guitar phrases are, by far, the best of this one. Yuzo Koshiro BEST COLLECTION vol.1 - Misty Blue I do like early Koshiro, specially his Ys and Sorcerian Scores. This one is not that different from the mentioned ones, perhaps Misty Blue is a bit more developed. Although it is highly addictive I find it little refined, sometimes too obvious. Seal Online (Game Rip) - Across The Misty Forest Good stuff here, it invokes a pleasant atmosphere which is not easy. There are some questionable synth instruments, but nothing offensive. It's quite good but not memorable enough. Sekaiju no MeiQ Super Arrange Version - Battle - Destruction Begets Decay An old known of mine, it's hard to forget that's for sure. The most interesting stuff here is not the main melodic line, which repeats too much in my opinion. The best here are the interludes and the intro, totally awesome. Guwange / ESP Ra.De. Original Soundtrack - [Underworld Cherry Blossoms] - Stage 3 <<2 points>> You gotta love the development of this piece, it begins with evil child laughter and disturbing effects and after develops into a beautiful asian inspired landscape. Surprising and intriguing. FROM DUSK TILL DAWN - 500 miles far from embarrassing <<3 points>> Finally, a nomination of mine got a gold (after of more than 60 weeks). I am proud of that my nomination won in such a strong week, even so I've nominated much better songs with worst results. The real merit of this one resides in his splendid use of a simple melody for creating such a optimistic sound. It just makes me feel good, enough said. Apidya Soundtrack - Sewer's Blast Chris Hülsbeck just has the touch, he can make whatever tune interesting. This is not his best work, not remotely, but even so, it's extremely solid. I love the intelligent progression of his music. |

Battle... @_@
(3 points) Week 132: Seal Online (Game Rip) - Across The Misty Forest (2 points) Week 135: FROM DUSK TILL DAWN - 500 miles far from embarrassing (1 point) Week 131: Yuzo Koshiro BEST COLLECTION vol.1 - Misty Blue I must say that Burning Halloween Town is overrated. It's pretty darned awesome the first few times you hear it, but it gets old quick. >_> |
