Problem with wireless router: D-Link DI-624+
I've been having trouble with my damn router. All the info I've used to connect to it has been gleaned from the net, but I'm no networking wizard. So forgive me if I sound patronising when I explain things lol....but I need help!
My computer is hooked up to it via a cable (the router's in my room), while my dad and sister's computers are connected wirelessly. The three of us were connected to it via Dynamic DHCP, so from a range of IPs, the router would assign us a random IP addresses whenever we switch our comps on. My comp was fine and the connection never broke, but my sister and dad experienced frequent disconnections, where I would always have to reset the router and it would be fine again. I looked up a bit of info, and decided to connect us using Static DHCP, so that we'd have the same IP all the time. For a time it worked, and the connection never broke. But ALAS now all of our connections are breaking every couple of hours and then it connects itself again. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?  |

There hasn't been any firmware updates on the router since 2004, but i'll try to reinstall the firmware tonight when I get home.

Hard to say I have seen wireless routers do this when they overheat. Don't ask me why they just do. I have found this is more of a problem with D-Link units than most others. I use to use D-Link all the time but recently I haven't been very pleased with there performance and have switch to LinkSys. If all else fails if you can try another router this would help rule out a hardware problem.

I'm going to vote the router overheating. My TrendNET router does that a lot.
Move it to a cooler location. If it doesn't do anything, pop it up and see if dust is collecting inside. I doubt it'll be a dust problem, but it doesn't hurt to check. Some people also say going from WPA2 to WPA will ease up on the router, but I don't know about that.
