DVD movies audio skipping

Alright so my computer isnt all that great but I should think it can play a DVD movie without a problem. My comp is an E machines, with XP, about a few years old.

Whenever I play a DVD movie, the audio skips and almost sounds like an echo of each sound that comes out. I tried WMP, MPC, and VLC. I even tried closing all programs before watching and still does this.

Any suggestions?

It plays cd's and everything fine. for the record, MPC the audio messes up. For VLC, its just the video.

Does it do the same if you have the DVD as an image mounted on Alcohol 120%/Daemon Tools?

Then the problem's not with your hardware (DVD drive) - it's your software.

Do the following:
1. Defragment
2. Update drivers
3. Update DirectX
4. Show us your event logs (Application and System)
5. Post screenshot of STARTUP tab in MSCONFIG.exe
