Forgot Windows Password - NEED HELP

Heya,

I'm a complete idiot!! I have this super old computer (few years old) - so I changed the password 'cause my brothers are faggots - they watch free porn and get my computer infected everyday.

Guess what - forgot my password and I have NO IDEA WHAT TO DO!!! Now my computer has WinXP Home... it's trash. I know when you reboot you can press F8, F10, F12 - whatever the model to re-install your computer....

But my computer does NOT have this function (somehow it disappeared since the last time I reinstalled my computer.... go figure)... and I was to lazy to make any WinXP backup discs. The Serial Number of the WinXP is still in the back... but is there another way to access my computer other than downloading a version of the WinXP online and using my serial? (YES I do have the serial sticker ON my computer in the back - but futureshop the tyrants did not provide me with a WinXP disc)

So thanks beforehand - remember I'm a n0_0b so go easy on the terminology.

PS. Hope this is the right place to post this at.

^By Auro from the FFXII board... Thanks ^^

I can't personally vouch for the above suggestion or my suggestion, but I've heard that downloading Ophcrack LiveCD will do the job. Probably take a few days though.

Or if you can get into safe mode as admin, you can set account passwords. just had to do this recently for my sister's computer with win xp home
press F8 (F5 on some computers) to get the menu at bootup, select the safe mode option.
Once you're in, just go to control panel->user accounts.

Brute force on passwords is just...not good for passwords bigger than 5 characters.

Spar's idea is best. Go to admin, make a new account, then change ownership of the files and all to the new account from the old, locked one.

You can try this service first: Windows XP Login Recovery - Window password recovery within minutes.

I haven't tested it, but they claim to have free service (just takes 3 days, is all).

Alternatively, you can blank out the password with a linux boot disk, although this method will make all of the files you encrypted with the old password unreadable. I have used this successfully, although you should probably try the first option first.

I don't know about that. 0phcrack purports to support near-instantaneous password decryption with rainbow tables (with up to 14 characters).

I seriously doubt he's got a 14-character password.

Free rainbow tables available for the following characters:
0123456789abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMN OPQRSTUVWXYZ

If he uses symbols such as !@#$%^&*()_+-=,./<>?;':"[]\{}| then he has to buy the tables from Objectif Securite...

If you get in safe mode as admin, you don't even have to make a new account and copy everything over, lets you reset/change the password on the old account
