Spoiler:

Actually, it's not all that surprising. How many times have wrestlers put their careers on the line and lost? I think of Alundra Blaze, DDP, Nash, and Goldberg in WCW. And then of course recently Flair (and I mean Mania 24, now Halloween Havoc in 94).

Ten or fifteen years ago it would have been obvious that Joe would win but these days they like to swerve fans to the point that they keep us guessing. I mean, it could have been Joe loses, then breaks his word and returns as a heel.

Heck, a potential angle would have been Kurt winning the match, and then Joe destroying him afterwards. And I mean destroying him as in Edge/Orton obliterating Flair about a year back but turned up several notches. Or how the Outsiders took apart WCW that one time with ball bats, and hurling Mysterio into a trailer. Basically, have Kurt having to be carried to the back and be out for a few weeks. This would either result in an instant double turn or the beginning of two turns. They could have even had Karen run out in defense for ANgle from Joe adding in the angle concerning Karen and showing she cares about Kurt. That would add (possibly) more symphaty regarding Kurt.

Joe would have had the sore loser type deal and would have begun a heel turn in which he would interrupt matches taking out his frustrations on various wrestlers (using chairs and the like to add emphasis). He would have had a bit of an outsider stigma because he wouldn't have been 'part' of the company. When this would happen, Cornette would have him escorted out, etc, etc. However, to add to it all, Joe would come BACK later in the night. Of course, he would take out the most sympathetic/beloved characters (to hopefully avoid fans getting into his rebel-like attitude). THe hope woudl be the roster would be pretty shaken up (think nWo style), especially those whom can't defend themselves as well, with regards to what Joe might possibly due to them.

Perhaps to add some time in between, maybe someone like Sting would try to reason with Joe. He might even have it that he has gotton Cornette to offer Joe a new contract only for Joe to obliterate Sting putting him out for a while (remember, Sting is part-time so this would be good for Sting). That would add heel heat just because people are generally behind Sting.

Eventually, he could goad Angle into a match with him, perhaps the icing on the cake being him putting Karen in the choke sleeper (Karen would be talking with Style and saying she still cares for Angle, effectively ending that angle. At that time, Joe will attack). Angle would go nuts and demand Joe be back in a match with him, hence bringing Joe back. Joe would win the title as Angle would be distrated/Joe's new mean streak, and both men would be freshened up.

Joe might then feud a bit with the returning Sting while Angle might go on to feud with Styles (who during the whole Joe-Karen thing, instead of stopping Joe, just walked off).

Yeah, I noticed that too! However, I recall that it used to be on in June instead of April but it would still be nice to see that ppv back.

Too bad it won't be a ppv and just be whatever they did with Booker T when he became King Booka.

Sonic..remember how they had all those qualifying matches for KoR so I'm thinking for the next month/two months, there will be an ass load of qualifying matches.

So expect to see...Kennedy, Finlay, Matt Hardy...probably Kofi Kingston and Mark Henry to be in the KoR

Or not

King of the Ring was always the May PPV I thought. Could have been June.

Guess we know why Raw is 3 hours next week.

also lolin' at Santino "We are the real weiners!" Someone make these catch phrases into shirts asap. I swear.

I miss the qualifying matches. I also remember when the King of the Ring first started out as a ppv that it started out with the quarterfinals, then it went to the semifinals, and then the finals.

Then it went down to starting at the semifinals and then the finals. Why in the world would you shorten the tournament? All you need in the King of the Ring ppv is 8 people in a tournament with title matches in-between rounds.

Slash, I was disappointed about it too.

Noticed Carlito tried to correct Santino after he switcharoo'd their identities. Figures Santino would make an amateur mistake like that, after all, he is an amateur.

And yes, the weiner bit was pretty funny.

Also, big w00t for the KoR returning. Yes, it's too early to be June, but fuck it. It's back.

The King of the Ring basically started on television. I think Harvey Race, Bret Hart, and one other (Jim Duggan) won them. I am unclear on the details though (if it was during one show or if they have several shows which had the matches).

In 93, they started to have the entire tournament as well as a world title defense, IC or Tag title defense and perhaps one or two other matches. Qualifying matches were usually on Raw the weeks prior to the event and/or in Savio Vega's case, right before the event.

Starting I think in 96, they started to have the semi-finals only (save for 99 and 2000), with the qualifying and quarter-finals on T.V. This has been the format since. Kinda lame if you ask me as this lessened the impact of the event (which was that a guy had to win three matches in a night to win the tournament).

So now we go back to where we came from, offering the King of the Ring on T.V. I forsee possible winners being Triple H (to build him up for the match at the next PPV and also to add to his 'King of Kings' moniker), Kennedy (as otherwise he is doing nothing), and well, that's it.

Yea KoR is coming back. . . Fully? Who knows. Will the winner be #1 contender as tradition has it? Only time will tell.

And I agree with JBL with what he said in his confrontation with Regal lol. Title shots are just handed to people now.

Well, if they haven't taken enough ECW out of WWECW:

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Mike Adamle has replaced Joey Styles as the new lead voice of ECW. This was announced before the tapings today in London. We hope to have more on why the company is going in this new direction soon.

Ugh.

Sucks that Styles is gone, but Adamle is now the lead voice of ECW? That's not a bad thing actually.

Well, most hardcore ECW fans would disagree due to the fact that they'll never hear "OH, MY GOD!!!" again, whether it be on ECW itself, or on a PPV. Frankly, it never made much of a difference to me, though Joey always said it at the right time, when something insane or EXTREME happened.

I honestly don't know about Adamle, though. Sure, he voiced one of America's greatest shows of the 90's, and did a good job at it, but to have him voicing ECW? hmm.... well, ...

Bah, s'not like they can do that hardcore shit anymore, anyway. What the hell.

Styles really improved over the years. Yes, he's no J.R., Solie, etc, but he improved a lot. And he was one of the lingering links to the ECW of old. But I guess with Tazz supposedly leaving this summer (I thought I heard something about that last year), with Stevie Richards basically doing nothing, and with Dreamer basically jobbing out until retirement/being a road agent, I guess it's of no surprise. The last lingering remains of the ECW of old are being severed in the face of the new, but not improved, ECW brand.

So let me get this straight. . . He puts a semi big name person like Mike Adamle on a freaking "C" show?? Put him with Michael Cole or something!

WOW, GG Vince. Nice way to kill ECW by slowly ridding all of the elements that it was made up of. Now all we need is Taz to go bye bye >_>, then who's left? Tommy Dreamer? I still remember the clever shit the WWE pulled on The Sandman.

Semi big name? Are you fucking kidding me? Adamle has 0 product knowledge. Those of you saying it could be a good move defy all logic.

Can't wait to DL the episode and check out the carnage:

They are way ahead of you Storm. When has Dreamer won a match? Heck, he was the man who LOST the 24 man tag match and THEN lost to Chavo. You'd think that they'd at least let the guy have a NON-TITLE VICTORY of Chavito but nope.
