I just learned that Battlestar Galactica has had it's previously reported 13-Episode 4th Season extended to 22 Episodes! David Eick and Ron Moore have hinted that they expect that season 4 will be the finale for the series so it's likely that Sci-Fi has let them go out with all guns blazing and with a proper conclusion to the saga.

Oh God, I hear disembodied Bob Dylan songs, so I must be a Cylon. Time to go emo.
|
The poor TV was so ashamed that it cried during the last 5 minutes of the show.
There was way too much filler to even be remotely interesting. This Season only had two good parts: 1) Escaping from New Caprica 2) The Season Finale Spoiler:

On the topic of the song that plays through the last ten minutes or so... I don't suppose anyone has ripped the song, or has an mp3 [or other audio format] of this version of the song yet, do they? I really liked it, and don't think I want to wait until summer when the soundtrack comes out.

I just saw the season finale and I'm like "what the frak?".
I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped another year or more to begin Season 4...

Wow, for a series that just seemed to keep getting more and more hardcore & could do no wrong, what a surprisingly lame episode? There is only a single real "mystery" left, in my mind, about who is a cylon:
Spoiler:
I thought the ending would have been better if this happened: Spoiler:

![]() Seriously: I'd rewind time to the Pegasus story. 1. Admiral Kane would have survived until the end of Season 2 (She should have been in for longer, but at least we'll have her in the TV movie before Season 4). She may have been murdered by a human as opposed to a Cylon for her opposition of settling down on New Caprica. 2. During the rescue at New Caprica in Season 3, Fat Apollo doesn't disobey Adama and continues with half the fleet in the Pegasus. Galactica survives the New Caprica rescue with the other half of the fleet but they are unable to recalculate jump-points or whatever to reach Pegasus and her fleet and both halves of the fleet remain seperated for about half the season. It would have been intresting for the writers to show the two different command styles of the Adama's with their respective fleet problems. As Apollo and Starbuck would be seperated we would also be spared the "love quadrangle" of Season 3. 3. Pegasus comes to Galacticas rescue at the Eye Of Jupiter and at this point the ship is sacrificed. 4. Spoiler:

I'm still sure about whatever the "Head Six" and the "Head Gaius" of Dr. Baltar and of Caprica Six is, it's gotta be something divine. I've had this theory since quiet some time that Head Six actually is God, or at least an "angel" and not just Gaius being nuts.
This WAS a pretty good episode indeed. And it's even (again) a worse cliffhanger than the previous ones, basically because Galactica just began to be rock-ish again (REALLY rock-ish, like spacebattle and big revelations and Baltar on the run rock-ish) after a very slow and partially dull season and *bang* it's over and we have to wait till January. Spoiler:
I'm all pumped for next season... Sadly, it'll be a long night till then... ![]() Additional Spam: Oh, and by the way, does anybody know if and when there'll be an OST for Season 3? ![]() ![]()

In the original BSG series there was that "ship of light," I can't remember much about it, I think it was a team sent from the future to help the Galatica? And the (male in that series) Starbuck crashed on a planet and was left behind, but via the help of the ship of light bore some super-smart child who was sent to the Galactica and was a key character in the shitty spin-off show.
Here, in Prez Laura's last vision, there were those 5 guys in all white sitting in a circle looking at them. Starbuck is left supposedly dead on a planet and comes back to help everyone. Wouldn't surprise me if this new development is a play on the "team of light" thing from the original BSG. I'll have to re-learn what they were about on Wikipedia later. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Lights Hmm, not quite as I remembered.
Feature apathy.

I'm also curious about what they're going to find if/when they reach Earth. The point above about the Final Five being resurrected on Earth is an interesting one, but then... Where would Starbuck have gotten her Viper?
Anyway, I think one of 4 things could happen when they reach Earth: Scenario A: They find an 'Alternate Universe' Earth, where the 13th Colony has settled and grown to a population of a few million, somewhere on the planet. They [presumably] have the same type of technologies as the other 12 colonies, maybe even more advanced. Scenario B: They find an 'Alternate Universe' Earth, where there is no human life. Presumably, the 13th Colony has either died off, or left clues to their possible 'new location'. [Not very likely, in my eyes, but still a possibility if they do continue past the fourth season.] Scenario C: They find Earth, exactly as it is today--poplulated with 6-7 billion people, but they still hold the beliefs of the original colonies: the Gods, and such. Scenario D: They find OUR Earth, exactly as it is in real life--by people who have no idea what the '13th Colony' is, and would freak out when a bunch of humans and human-robots suddenly dropped out of the sky. Just a few points to ponder. I personally like Scenario D, but that would set up the entire series for a cliffhanger ending, assuming that season 4 is indeed the last. About the S3 soundtrack, it's slotted for Summer 2007. No exact date yet, that I know of. [If you're wondering, the cover of 'All Along the Watchtower' WILL be on it.] |

Scenario D has already been done (with the horrific Galactica 1980). Trust me, you don't want that scenario, nor do you want Starbuck to have had some superintelligent baby come back to annoy the hell out the Galatica crew.
I had forgotten about the ship of light and the advanced beings who helped the humans in the original series. They were ok there, because they represented one possible route for the humans to find Earth, but to introduce them in the new series in the 4th (and probably last) season seems like deus ex machina. Unfortunately, though, that does seem a very logical conclusion to the cliffhanger, since I highly doubt that Chief Tyrol, Tigh, etc. are Cylons. |
