Well Malkin was injured in preseason with a dislocated shoulder and usually dislocated shoulders keep you out for about 4-12 weeks.

Just fucking great.

<3 preseason.

P.S.: I'll be whipping out my Pens av/sig combo shortly. I'll probably work on the new stuff (Ducks, Sabres, new 3rds) soon.

So.

Why isn't this thread named the "Senators update thread" anymore? Fire not doing her job?

Well, the season hasn't started yet, true, and the sens' performance hasn't been anything to write home, or even talk to your friends about, but still.

Go sens, eh, Fire?

The Carolina Hurricanes have traded the rights to defenceman Jack Johnson and defenceman Oleg Tverdovsky to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for defenceman Tim Gleason and centre Eric Belanger. The Hurricanes were in need of some immediate defensive help after losing Aaron Ward to free agency and Frantisek Kaberle to shoulder surgery. Johnson did not want to sign with Carolina this season because he wanted to return to the University of Michigan.
I am seriously crying right now.

That's a silly trade. Even if Johnson was holding out due to wanting to go back to UMich (why be traded to LA then? hmmm), he's still their #3 pick and will probably become a better player than any of the other three players involved in that trade.

Oleg was a salary dump. He earned 2.5 mil last season and spent the majority of it either injured or a healthy scratch. Wouldn't be suprised if that happens again this season.

What bugs me is why we would trade away someone with the potential to be one of the NHL's next great defencemen for a third line center and a young d-man with one and a half years of NHL experience. I'm sure Gleason can be a good blue liner given time, but he's not nearly as widely touted as Johnson is. Not to mention we have plenty of young d-men we could give a shot in the meantime while Johnson finishes his time at UMich.

This may help us short term, but in the long run I'm betting we lost big time on this one.

Well suprisingly Jordan Staal made the Pens roster for opening night. They'll probably just keep him for a couple of games until Malkin gets back.

I'll be watching him if he's still there for the second game. I got tickets, baby!
It's been good for the city.

The city of Fourside has developed quite a bit since Mr. Geldegarde Monotoli hit the big time.

cannot wait for 4pm PT to roll around... the beginning of the NHL season for me on VS. And I get to watch two games in a row... sadly I have to wait until Friday to see the Ducks season opener. But at least I got to see them play in one of their pre-season games. Their blue line looks good with the addition of Pronger over the summer. Now if only we can do something about the new uniforms ^_~

What a way to open the season. 4-1 game against our rivals works for me. I must admit, I was concerned about having Gerber in net for the opening game but he was very impressive. What I saw of Antoine Vermette stunned me, where last season he was fast and accurate, tonight he was sloppy and missed a majority of his passes and shots. That penalty shot was bullshit. Sundin had already shot the puck, not w penalty shot. Volchenkov deserved a penalty but that call was still crap. We still won so I'm not as mad as I might have been. Rematch back home tomorrow night, hoping it goes as well as this game did.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

Honestly I added you on MSN just to scream GERBERRRRRRRRRRRR but you never got online thanks for ruining my great plan.

So we lost 3-2 in the shootout against the SABRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Sucks to drop the first game, but I was impressed with how we played. Cam was solid, and some of the newer guys seemed to be fitting in pretty well. Couple games to get the chemistry going and we should be doing fine.

The injuries to Stillman and Kaberle certainly suck though.

Yeah the Canes looked as good as they did last year. However you guys took way to many penalties last night. That should improve later in the season.

of the two games I got to see last night, I thought the Sabres vs. Hurricanes game was the better of the two games played. The Stars vs. Avalanche game was good but not as exciting to watch with the exception of the one fight...

didn't see anything on the schedule on VS tonight for any games... so I'm wondering if I'm really going to be without any games tonight (my neighbors will be thankful about that though)...

Both teams had that problem. I guess everyone just has to remember that the refs are still going to call everything and you really can't get away with anything anymore.

Penguins to be bought by Hamilton, ON-based BlackBerry dude. Hamilton has been itching for a franchise since before the Predators came into being (probably long before that too) and everyone in Canada would like more teams there. How likely is it that they really move?

Oh dear, we are playing terribly. Honestly, we deserve to be losing 5-0. I feel like I'm watching the Binghamton Sens. Phillips has given it away at least 4 times in the last 5 minutes of play. COME BACK CHARA D<

Ronz, I have MSN but the connection here at school is so laggy I can rarely send any messages, if at all. Since I can't reply, I don't go on all that often....but message received

It's early, but I think the Sens are going to have a difficult season.
