[Sports] 06-07 NHL Discussion Thread

Discuss all of the off-season happenings, and other assorted stuff leading up to, and including, the 2006-2007 season.

My only hope for this year is that the Pens finally get Malkin. And that they don't get moved.
It's been good for the city.

The city of Fourside has developed quite a bit since Mr. Geldegarde Monotoli hit the big time.

I bet that's what the Blackhawks said when they got Khabibulin.

I find it hilarious that Lindy Ruff won the Jack Adams. More like Joke Mode Adams. Who is he kidding.

lol bz

Anyone else see the article on nhl.com about how NOBODY has contacted Manny Legace yet? The guy had a great regular season despite the Red Wings loss in the 1st round to the Oilers, and just like that he's apparantly outcasted from the entire league.

Read about it here

The thing is, our team has been pretty good the last couple seasons and has been held back by horrid goaltending. Chicago, on the other hand, has been held back by horrific everything. In conclusion, WOO BITCHES GOIN DOWN.

The city of Fourside has developed quite a bit since Mr. Geldegarde Monotoli hit the big time.

Well, Sens got a goalie and ditched Hasek, that was a good move. Signed Redden and Spezza, also good moves. I'm still upset over losing Chara though. That's a big space to fill for whomever is up to the task.

I'm sad to see Yzerman retire but I think its his time, he had a fantastic career.

Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.

Looks like Shanahan has signed with the Rangers. I'm glad we've got someone we can throw on the powerplay that has a right handed shot.

Average Boston streetwalker: "Who the fuck is Zdeno Chara?"

The Penguins need to land some d-men or else they'll have another lottery pick next June.

Well they got one, Eaton from the Predators. He's a pretty solid d-man from what ive heard. He fills a small void.

Though don't be suprised if the Pens dont sign anyone for a while not counting Malkin. I think Shero wanted to trade for players eventually since some teams will be over the cap after these arbitrations are settled.

Like Buffalo, hahaha. I don't envy their GM.

I'm really glad Chara went to an eastern team, 'cause I heard Minnesota was gunning for him and playing him eight times a season would've sucked with a capital suck.

What? Dude, I'm in Boston all the time, and almost everyone I meet is a Bruins fan, and a lot of those are fairly well educated hockey fans. (Educated enough to know how shoddy their ownership is, at least.)

Note that I didn't say "Boston hockey fan." There are a couple million people living in Boston, and I'm sure a good percentage of them don't follow the Bruins and don't know who Zdeno Chara is.

and if boston doesn't know who Chara is, they will soon. He's not one to be missed for very long, if at all.

Hmm, this should make for an interesting story on Sportscenter then.

Anyway. So, my Lightning look like a haphazard throw together on defense. Got Kuba and Delmore, but I'd love to see us get another defense under contract who can play on our top two lines. We did get Denis, so I'm happy we're at least trying to get a goaltender in town that can stop some of the softer goals (then again, I haven't seen Denis play, and I'm just relying on word of mouth infortmation). Oh well, mediocrity, here we come.

Heh are you kidding? Even with a death ESPN could give 2 shits about hockey. It's sad but thats the cold hard truth.

True, but then we'd get to see the top 10 deaths in sports, according to ESPN. :lolsign:

Hockey has become an isolated sport in the US (much unfortunately). I can't see why, as I dislike the NBA and most of the MLB (I still root for the Drays). While I'm on the subject, MLB is probably the most boring, statistical sport around. Not to mention lopsided. I'd take it more seriously if they had a salary cap to even the playing field, but I'm assured to see my team at the bottem of the division year in and year out, as well as being assured the Red Sox and Yankees will scoop up top talent every year.

Well, so far Yzerman's retired and the Red Wings have let Shanahan go... hopefully they'll make some moves to get players soon.
