MegaScrabble Game 3

ZERGRINCH WINS

Ok bingo hounds, it’s time for Game 3 to get underway. As usual, the game starts at 10am. Given the larger than normal amount of players (we’ve got 12 this time, compared to what ended up being 9 last game), this should be over in less than a week.

Each day lasts 24 hours and begins at 10am. I’ll keep this thread updated with the latest scores, and at 10am every day (or close to it, depending on sleep/work) I’ll post everyone’s new tiles to bring their total back up to 14.

Remember:
-POST YOUR WORDS IN CAPITAL LETTERS
-Post your moves/scores in the thread
-Letter/word multipliers only work for the first word(s) played on them (lots of folks make this mistake).
-I go through and change the blanks on the board to italic letters in different font.

I’ll be checking scores/letters for accuracy. If anyone makes a word for which they don’t have the letters, or any other illegal move, they forfeit that turn, and I’ll take the letters off the board if no one has played off them yet.

I just have a few questions before I do anything:

When I play a word, should I update the board?

Does the square in the middle count as a double-word score?

Is there a set starting point?

Yes, update the board on Google, then post what you did here.

Yes.

Quote:

You start on the square in the middle. You didn't ask, but you can take both of your turns at once, or you can take them at different times.

Acro-nym has dibs on JOULING, which uses the "L" in drilled.

I object to that word.

I will not remove his tiles, but if the objection is sustained, I wish to put PUMP_IKE on that same L, forming PUMPLIKE for 68 points.

As JOULING does not appear on the official Scrabble tournament word list, Acro-nym does not get 60 points and forfeits that turn (he has one turn remaining today). I removed JOULING and placed PUMPLIKE in its place, at Zergrinch's request.

It's never been an issue before, but I knew there were 2 official Scrabble dictionaries; TWL (which is what we use) is for the US, Canada, Thailand and Israel. SOWPODS is for everywhere but those countries. Since most of the players here (including you, as far as I know) are based in the North America, I chose the TWL dictionary.

Did you know JEWISH is not a valid TWL entry? I had to reject this particular word in game 1 in fear of it being declared illegal

Neither are BRITISH or ANGLICAN. I have to assume it's because they're proper nouns.

Yeah. Apparently TWL doesn't take proper nouns which can be adjectives :P

Yeah, it's my fault. I didn't remember which one we were using (nor did I know the difference) and just took SOWPODS at face value. Ille vita est.

Side note: I don't approve of Zerg placing multiple words and then deciding on one of them to use. I know people sometimes need a visual aid and there may not be a way to moderate it, but it flies in the face of traditional Scrabble rules. (And makes it hard to determine what areas are available.)

EDIT: I've added SPRINGY to the board across the P in PUMPLIKE. That should give me 42.

Added JAVE[L]IN off the N in SPRINGY for 64 points.

EDIT: added a Q on the 2w spot between SPRINGY and JAVELIN, forming QI twice for 44 points.

Letters left: D, A, Y, N, I, T

You have a point, but I'm one of those folks who need a visual aid as well. It's not something I can really moderate, but I can say that if you're not the only person looking at the board, then you shouldn't lay down multiple words. Sometimes I'll lay down a word, then realize I can't make it, so I take it back up again (before I post it in the thread to make it official).

EDIT: Acro-nym's original tileset (IBIRYGOO[]USVEJ) did not contain an N, so the N in SPRINGY must be a blank. I adjusted his and Face's scores accordingly.
