[General Discussion] Cross Dressing

Cross dressing has been always a part of any MMO for years. You could possibly say it is part of tradition for players playing as an opposite gender.

As there are bunch of players that does this, there aare always who don't.



I personally don't cross dress ever because I find that it makes me "gay", or shows my "feminine" side which I personally find "queer".

Sure, I only played MMO since 2003, which is only three years. I am pretty damn sure most of MMOers in GFF has played longer since most of you are older.

Personally, there ARE some times I want to it, but hell it's against my moral. Mostly because the sprite for male chracter sucks ass.

I don't think about it the way you do too much. Most my characters are male. But I make females too. A wiseman once said "If I'm gonna be looking at a character's rear end for hours, it's gonna be a female character"

It's not like you're gonna get romantically involved with another player in an MMO anyhow... well it's highly unlikely anyhow.

Although with all the WoW I play I'm kinda surprised I don't have a night elf female. I mostly am staring at the back of my gnome's head.

I'd always play females in Ragnarok Online though.

On RO, I had trouble changing to sinX. I never liked sinX sprite. I finally gave up with my rebel and changed it. I still regret it though =X.

For guildwars, I can't stand their sprite. It just sucks period. The game is amazing though.

I've never, ever used a female character in a MMO. Reason being that when I'm playing online and I see a female character, my instinct just tells me it's a female player. Sure I'm aware that there are guys with female characters, but I know more females with female characters than guys with female characters, and I don't know any female with a male character. So if I make a female character, I'm just feeding the confusion.

Yeah that article is pretty stupid, at least from the part you quoted. If anything using a female character just makes others less likely to be rude to you, not the other way around. Cause you get idiots that assume you really are a girl and that they're somehow going to get some if they're nice to you.

The genders of my characters really depends on the idea I have for my characters. In CoH/CoV I have 6 heroes and 5 villains. 3 of those characters are female simply because I had ideas for female characters. In other games it's kinda whatever looks cooler. An example being I think Night Elf women look cool, while I think the Night Elf men look like crap. Infact the only males I had in WoW are a dwarf and my horde characters. Aside from that I had 2 female night elves(Warrior and a Hunter)

They're not exactly MMORPGs, but back when I was an avid MU* addict, I usuall y always played male characters. For some strange reason, I usually RPed a lot better as a male than as a female, which is pretty strange *shrug* My very first Mu* character was a female though.

Fact: In pen-and-paper RPGs, as well as single-player console RPGs, I play and enjoy playing males far more than females.
Fact: In MMORPGs (should I ever stoop so far as to play one) and MU*'s (text-based ftw!) I am completely comfortable playing either gender. Especially if it's a girl that kicks ass.

I mostly play females in MMOs, because they just look better than most male characters.

They tend to spend more time on the female sprites in a lot of games, which reflects that still a high percentage of game making companies employ males seeking to make hot females in their games. My most uttered quote when asked why I play girls *points way up at the "Wiseman comment"

same thing I always preferred a female character in a video game. I don't know why but in any video game I tend to like the girls more than the male character, and I like a real strong kick-ass female character (like Lady in DMC3 or Tifa XD)

so I mainly play girl in mmorpg, but I think where it make the difference is when you're a guy and you pretend to be a girl, now I think that's just wrong XD

Don't laugh at the article. It's all in the mind. I've played with many people, whom I know in real life and do meet on some days, that in one game, they're firece and a asshole with some male character of theirs. But in another game, he's got a female character and is way too generous. Maybe he got sick of telling people he's a guy playing a female
(i.e, other male players with male characters treating him as eye-candy), or that he felt it suits his "character's personality" to play in such a manner. "Hey, I'm gonna be a human, why not act all noble-like?" "Play a werewolf, well, don't really feel like getting bashed for dancing in a field of flowers, time to eviscerate some prey."

There's a bit of a difference between playing a character and role playing a character. If it's the former, I'll chose whatever I pleease. Chances are I'll choose the one that is more visually appealing to me, whether it be a cute female or some awesome cool male. I don't act like a female and I don't encourage the perception of myself as a female, so there is no gender crisis or whatever.

Role playing, however, is a different story. I'd be more likely to choose a male character just to keep things simple.

I used to always play as male characters, such as my male Taru in FFXI, but since playing FFXI I realised the advantage of female characters. People are more inclined to help female characters. Its really shitty I know, but there are tonnes of pervy men who think that the character is a direct refelction of the player, so I let them think that, and they level me up, show me around and give me free stuff.

I had a female Hume mule on FFXI and people would always give it stuff. I was given a Scorpion Harness (back when it was worth 15mil), all the elemental staves (again back in the worth something days) and loads of stuff like Errant gear and an Igquira Weskit. I was also given 6 Shihei toolbags all because this guy thought I was a hawt chick!

I do like to be the male characters cause I think that they look much stronger etc, but the female ones have a much higher economical advantage.

In some games, the male characters look so damn awful that it's difficult to play them. In WoW I rolled a human female because I didn't like the look of any of the alliance males. I prefer to have a male main simply because I feel very uncomfortable with guys being extra nice to me or giving me things. When I do play female characters, I usually have a name that leans toward being masculine.

Worst I had in WoW was when I went AFK, came back and saw a random human man kneeling in front of me. He had a trade window open with a ring in it and was asking me to marry him. Yeah... that's a bit freaky, I'm sorry. I feel bad for some of the crap real women have to put up with in MMORPG realms.

It's likely you guys won't say this kind of stuff in public... I don't play girl characters unless there's no other choice.. Which was the case when I played Rakion.. The worse game in the world.. Anyways.. Here's my thoughts.. You can take it any way you like, no offence to any of you out there..

I've played both gender characters. When I choose my character gender, I don't look at getting free items or attention or anything related to that. It is all based on my class,what looks better overall, and most of all, what I feel most comfortable with. MMO's like Trickster have players crossdressing in both ways because each gender of each class has different types of skills and builds.

I don't feel "queer" or any negative emotions when playing a character opposite my gender. I also think those who see such a topic as a big issue are naive. But, cross dressing on MMO's for flirting purposes is also bad and not my issue.

Only MMORPG I have played so far is FFXI, and I had both female and male characters, the male one was my main though, only used females to store and sell random items.

There are some classes of characters who simply look better when being portrayed as a female. For example, in WoW I think females look cooler as rogues than males do, but I just can't picture a female hunter or warrior. Also, since you can't age in WoW, I find female mages, priests, and warlocks more appropriate than males ones, but the same does not apply to shamans.

The female sprites used for thieves and assassins in Ragnarok Online though look really cool -- the male ones look kinda like a ripoff of the female versions.

I dunno, to me I play the gender that I associate with the class. Doesn't matter if it's a night elf, blood elf, tauren, orc, troll, human, etc.
