[PC] Anyone else interested in Age of Conan?

From what I've read, it sounds very different from just about any other MMORPG out right now. I'm going to at least give it a chance, I figured I'd ask here because maybe we could all plan to choose the same server.

The game comes out in October last time I checked and aocinformer.com is a good site for info for anyone who doesn't know much about it.

I have a friend who's absolutely obsessed about this game, thus, I'll probably be playing it--or at least trying it. The game seems to be intended to be a lot more mature than some of these MMO's out there. I heard things like topless ho's or prostitutes or some crap like that. Haha.

Seems like the community will be top notch. Their official forum already has some great threads like 'TEEHEE THIS GAME IS GOING TO SUCK UNLESS YOU GIVE US AN OPTION TO CHANGE OUR MAKE UP. I WANT DON'T WANT TO PLAY A GAME UNLESS I CAN CHOOSE MY NAIL POLISH COLOR!!!!!!'

No really. I haven't really heard much about it. They pretty much released some info on the ranger class, and people are whining about them being overpowered, when like no other class was put out there.

I saw some of the videos as well for the game. Seems nice enough. But they better have an Arnold-like voice saying, "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women" somewhere in the game, or I want my money back.

Well it's really based on the novels and not the movies/tv shows, so if they do that, it'll just be for comedic value. Unlike the movies and tv shows, it's gonna be very violent with sexual references and alcohol. Because that's just how the novels were, I saw alot of people on the gamefaqs board talking about how the movies and what not are essentially watered down versions of what Conan really is. The comics made by Dark Horse are probably a better reflection of what to expect.

I'm kinda amused that one form of PVP in the game is going to be drunken bar fights.

Sad to say, I own one of the novels.

Wouldn't this mean that the game only runs on Vista?

Otherwise, it looks good - I like the sound of the combat and class systems.

If it's on Vista only, fuck it. I ain't buying.

Granted, I don't have much interest in it anyway, but that's the last nail in the coffin for me. I will avoid buying Vista for as long as possible.

Last I heard you didn't need Vista to play it. It just runs "best" on Vista.

The game has finally arrived. And for those wondering no you don't need Vista. It's compatible with both Direct X 9 and 10. However I'm lucky that I got into the Early Access and got to download the game from their website... cause the install disc seems to not like my computer.

I'll be on the Cimmeria RP PVP server if anyone here cares.

You dont even need to pay for vista to use it. But it's not worth the extreme effort to pirate either, the whole OS is like hitting yourself in the face with a brick.
DX10 will just allow using some stupid graphical pretties, and an overall reduction in performance.

I'd give Conan a try since the graphics don't look like they're from an mmo at all, but it's p2p and I don't p2p.
Thank you ever so wise and godly forum-lifers for putting a disgusting fatso image in my sig. Or... not.

I'm not at all sure why I kept thinking the 20th was tomorrow.

Anyway, I got in on some beta action for a while a few days ago and what I took away from it is the combat system is pretty cool, but I'm not at all sure how the defense is supposed to work for you in PvP unless you just use the all around defense. Still, attacking things is a little more involved than right clicking and watching things happen.

It also woke me up to the fact that I'm running on a (mostly) three year old rig. Being able to run World of Warcraft with all the bells and whistles on with slowdown only when a million things were happening onscreen at once was pretty awesome. Trying the same with Age of Conan got me killed in the tutorial area.

I was pretty happy that I recognized a few characters from the books right off the bat once I got out of the tutorial area and into the first town.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'm ready for another MMO. I'm still coming off WoW, and I'm just afraid I'd find something in this game to piss me off again. But first impressions of AoC are pretty awesome.

I'm wondering if you can play this game using the resolution 800x600?
I don't see that well and I rarely use any higher resolution, only when it's absolutely needed.

I've been playing this game for 5 weeks now. The game has A LOT of issues. Before I point some out though, let me say that this MMO is indeed very different and has a lot of potential. Now then:

- The game has some crazy memory leak issues that cause the game to crash, causes you to lose your map, causes random 10ms latency, and random FPS drops to the 10s even on monster rigs. Hell, the game runs better on some lower end video cards sometimes.

- Lowering the graphics sometimes makes the game run worse.

- A pretty large amount of the combos and feats aren't working properly. Feats are the stuff you put points into to boost your stats, combos, abilities, and learn new combos.

- Melee in PVP has a lot of issues. Due to the combat system, It's damn near impossible to hit anyone with any melee strikes while casters just click one button to blast you into oblivion.

- Levels 1 - 20 you're on this island called Tortage. There's a lot of interesting happenings going in in there, but this is all false advertising. Once you leave that island, you'll find out just how bare bones the content really is. It's obvious this game was rushed and released incomplete.

There's some more stuff that I'll try to explain later. So the game obviously has a lot of issues. This is nothing new when it comes to MMOs though. The game still shows a lot of promise and Funcom is making some promises that we can only hope they'll keep.

Either way, if anyone wants to join up with me, my server is Dagoth PVE.

I was going to pick this one up yesterday, but the system requirements really put me off, especially with the required HDD space.

Regardless, the game looks to be very interesting to try at least once, so if I get the copy next time around, I will join you and maybe you can help me out get used to the world.

Thanks to Minoko for such an awesome sig/ava combo!
