GFF is a hellhole full of elitists who chat about everything EXCEPT games. We have a team of dedicated moderators who will ban your ass on the slightest provocation, constant member-organized activities that you are not allowed to participate in, and plenty of custom features, including our unique journal system where you can post entries that will be completely ignored. If this is your first visit, be sure to check out the FAQ or our GFWiki. You will have to register before you can post. Although membership is completely free (and gets rid of the pesky advertisement unit underneath this message) we do not recommend that you sign up, because you will get kicked in the nuts repeatedly.

[PS3] Metal Gear Online v2
![]() Platform: Playstation 3 Release: June 12th 2008 OFFICIAL SITE What is MGO? Metal Gear Online is the online multliplayer component of MGS4 that carries over the same backdrop and control system of the single player game to original online maps and game modes, with future downloadable expansion packs adding additional maps, characters, and other features after the game's release. Among the new components this time around are battles featuring up to 16 players, and the SOP System. MGO is included with MGS4 as a "Starter Pack" which is a starter in name only since you'll be able to get the full MGO gameplay experience from this pack alone that will also feature 5 playable maps. SOP System & Gameplay Elements ![]() The SOP System allows you to visually share information among your squad by "linking-up" with your teammates. Information like your teammates' positions, status, and even who they're engaging with will all be provided to you in real-time. It also works through walls, letting you identify individuals by their digital silhouette. ![]() MGO also has some RPG-elements to it too similiar to other shooters given you'll be able to choose from a variety skills to utilise and level up to improve these skills and learn more like CQC, aiming, hacking etc. An example with Hacking is that with experiences you'll be able to "hack" the other teams' SOP and gather all their information and location to ultimately disable them. You can also customise your character's physical appearance along with his gear and items. Aside from the usual game modes like Team Deathmatch or Capture The Flag there will also be some new ones too such as the confirmed "Snake Vs Everyone" mode where one player assumes the role of Snake and then 2 teams get tasked in hunting him down. The more times a team finds and elminates Snake makes them the victor. ___________________________________ MGO Premiere Beta A beta for MGO kicks off soon in North America and Europe. To get into the beta in NA you need to preorder MGS4 at either EBgames/GameStop or a recognised retailer like Best Buy where you'll receive the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD. The DVD itself is unimportant but inside the case is a slip of paper that contains a unique code to get into the beta. You can also obtain the Saga DVD by purchasing it from Best Buy's website for just $5.00: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots DVD Offer - PlayStation 3 The beta will be available for download from the relaunched Playstation Store on April 17th with service to commence on April 21st giving a 4 day window for everyone to download the beta. Service runs for 2 weeks from April 21st to May 5th with some skills available and 2 maps to play with: Gronznyj Grad ![]() Blood Bath ![]() EUROPE FOLKS! No preorder or purchase is necessary to get into the beta. All you'll need to do is just download the beta from the PS Store on April 17th and you'll be all set!!! ![]() BREAK OUT! ___________________________________ So with the MGO beta looming I figured I'd try giving a thread a try since the last thread for MGO on PS2 turned out pretty well so hopefully this one turns out just as well or fail. So basically use this thread for the usual like to discuss the beta, stats, ranking and hooking up with fellow GFFers for matches or clans. I know we've got a PSN ID thread stickied but if anyone is taking part in the beta or the final version then you can feel free to throw your ID in here and I'll add it to the OP as it'll be easier to let others know if you're playing MGO and to add. My ID is DGSimo and I've got some GFFers on my list so have at it. ![]()

Fuck yeah count me in. PSN ID is SouthJag, go figure.
I'm really psyched for MGS4's launch, and though I'm not particularly good at playing shooters online, I'm gonna give MGO a try. |

PSN ID = eprox1
Just picked my beta code up. I am a huge Metal Gear fan, but never got to play MGS3: Subsistenancetesis, so the 'newer' 3rd person style might be a bit different for me. Quick question - I remember hearing Kojima saying in that 15 minute gameplay premiere video that you can go through the entire game in any of the different view options (1st person, over the shoulder, top view, etc.), but wouldn't you be incredibly limited to some of the moves in, say, 1st person view? I ask because my roommate really enjoys CoD4, and I don't think he would like this game unless he could be just as maneuverable as the other players, who may be using the classic view... ![]() |

I thought the same thing when he said that. I'm guessing that if it is possible to play the whole game in fps then maybe you would have to to just shoot like crazy through the entire game or maybe there will be a lot of quick camera movements like when peeking through the corner or rolling on the ground kinda like in scenes cod4.
But since the mgs series is in third person there will be a lot of things which will be limited in fps mode, like the slower movement, but if for some reason the fps mode is almost perfected/enjoyable on mgs it might give other companies ideas to incorporate this in other games to give the player options. ![]() |

I know some of this was posted in the other thread but the PS blog updated with a complete rundown of the beta including available maps, weapons and modes: PlayStation.Blog » ALERT! “Metal Gear Mondays” Begin NOW on the PlayStation.Blog with Metal Gear Online Beta Details! Can't wait! Plus we get to sample some form of MGS4, given the reworked controls, 2 months before the game hits! ![]()

Hell yes, I'll be playing beta! Though not as obsessively as some others (damn finals). Man, MGO1 was so addicting and I imagine MGO2 is gonna be even more difficult to put the controller down. Ahh, such a shame to hear that the Master Key isn't included as an attachment, would have been sweet to have an M4 + Master Key + Scope. BTW, what's a datsight? Did they mean "red dot sight"?
PSN ID: KKL07 Thinking of changing that, since it's a pretty lame screen name. Heh, though luckily it won't be my MGO's actual character name thanks to Konami's system for the online. |

Premiere Beta Available For Download! Well it looks our PSN IDs aren't necessary anyway given you've got to register for Konami ID when first booting up the beta. Of course you can get a headstart by getting one now: https://id.konami.net/login.do The site is kind of screwy at the moment given it buckles under heavy traffic, like right now, but I managed to get a Konami ID earlier which is lone_wolf. So post your Konami game codes and I'll throw 'em up into the OP. ![]() |

Oh, and downloading beta now! |
I downloaded the beta this morning and just a word of warning its a test of patience though. Getting the actual beta isn't so bad but when you first boot it up you're prompted download a 400MB patch via P2P or http that takes forever. At least I'm all set now and its just a matter of waiting until Monday. ![]() ![]()

I hate this konami and game ID crap, why don't they just use PSN like every other online game out there?? It's so much easier and no one has to go through this registering crap. I can't even get on the site, it keeps saying it's busy. man, i hope they ditch this konami ID thing for the full release. i'll be complaining about it on their feedback site.
updating the game took me about 4 hours, i tried getting it through HTTP but got an error so i had to download using p2p, which was slow as fuck. it's a good thing they give us a 4 day head start to download and update the game before we get a chance to play it. I'm hoping the game doesn't lag, but after what I've seen from updating and trying to register it probably will. |

What a fucking joke. I STILL CAN'T EVEN GET ON THE GODDAMN WEBSITE.
After all of this bullshit, it's seriously scary to think how their servers are going to handle the actual fucking game. ![]()

I'm still having problems getting the goddamn beta downloaded. I've been playing GT5 all fucking day and I'm only at 72%. Jesus, Konami. Here in America we call it "anticipation" ya know?

Christ, I'm just glad I got mine sorted when I did. I had no problems with the Konami ID site since I set up my gamer code a couple of days ago and downloading the beta and installing the patch only took an hour which at the time I thought was quite a wait given how fast the actual beta took.
I just hope when it comes to playing the actual thing it won't completely fucktard itself over and fail like the installation process has been for most. ![]() |

Bleh, same crap for me and the Konami ID site as well. I did manage to get to the Information page last night (where you selected konami and game ID with PWs), only to get the inactivity error shortly after submitting. I share everyone's fears, if this is any indication of things to come, then I'm expecting a huge server crash the first of day service. Either that or one hell of a laggy play experience. Heh, though I really hope this won't be the case.
I'm also glad that they released the download days before actual service, otherwise I'd be pissed cause I still can't create a damn ID/acct. BTW, anyone when do the servers actually open on the 21st? Eg. 12am PST or evening release? Heh, if it is 12am, then I'm totally gonna be staying up the whole night to play. |
