Is Dual-Booting worth it?

I don't, but I'd really consider it. I spend most of my days in the lab at my university, and all of the machines there are dual-booting XP and Red Hat. Pretty much the only reason anyone uses XP is for Visual Studio, and really that's all I can think of using it for either. My desktop will always run Windows -- or at least be able to boot into windows -- just to be able to run games. I'm running XP MCE on my desktop, and despite the whole eating-hard-drives-for-breakfast thing, it's relatively reliable. My laptop runs Windows because it came that way and I haven't changed it.

I'd switch my laptop over to some Linux variant, but I haven't for a couple of reasons:
1) Hassle. I don't have the time to back up all of my stuff, move it off, and then spend a day trying to figure out how to reinstall the universe on my laptop.
2) I'm sure I'm the only person that thinks like this, but it just feels weird to see Linux on a laptop. It's for desktops, man. Desktops!


All in all, though, I definitely plan on making my next desktop dual boot into something else, at least, other than Windows. (Windows/Mac dual boot FTW!)

I used to. Had Windows XP Professional on C:/ and Fedora Core 4 on D:/. Norton PartitionMagic made it a bit easier to create the separate partitions.

One thing's for sure......the performance in Linux was 25% better than XP. I just didn't have the space to keep both (30GB HDD), so in the end, FC4 had to go.

And then when I started to remove it.........I ended up destroying both XP and FC4 boot files. Whoops.
