Does it? I didn't check. I gather you are still having trouble with it then. Why not try re-installing it and see if that makes a difference.

Well it looks as if it is a problem at your end, I've just tried logging into Live Messenger and it when straight into it. When I first had it though I was always getting error messages, could've been this one that you are getting.

What I did to get rid of it was to close down Messenger and try to log in, if that wouldn't work then I would restart my PC, and doing that normally sorted it out. Try restarting your machine, if that doesn't work, I give up.

This might sound a little stupid/obvious, but are you connected to the Internet when you try and log-in, and are you have trouble with anything else?

try Trillian, it uses MSN plus other popular messengers. If the MSN on the trillian works, then the real problem is with copy of MSN that you have. You should try uninstalling it and delete any traces of it you have on your computer. download a fresh new one from msn.com and install it.

Pet me... you know you wanna.

Isn't WLM 8.1 still in beta?

I think you should consider chibi neko's suggestion and try an alternate client to see if you can login with that.
