...it doesn't work that way.
That is, there is no program that will 'transcribe' an MP3 (or comparable audio file) into a MIDI.

There are programs that do that, you can find a bunch of them searching on Google.

The problem with many of them is that the song must be fairly simple with a small number of distinguishable instruments.

Theoretically, if you had the MIDI, you could get some form of the sheet music. (At least, that's what I could see.)

Additionally, people are still using cell phones that will only accept MIDI (or another transcribed format) for ringtones.

And you could fit like a billion MIDIs on a CD.

(Granted, shitty.)

The top result http://www.pluto.dti.ne.jp/~araki/amazingmidi/ seems to be what you are after. I tried another wav to midi program ages ago (cant remember the name of it though), the results are patchy but I suppose you'll be able to pick bits out.

Snowknight you're right you can view musical score from a midi file, one such program that allows you to do so is noteworthy composer.

Woah! This reminds me of this program I once had where you could get real life sheet music that you'd scan onto the computer and it would turn THAT into a .midi
Ingenious!
