I didn't think that people were this generous to make these apps free. Hopefully they work as good as a program that you actually have to pay for!

Have you never heard of the Free Software and Open Source movements?
The concept of making software (and even source code) available for free in order to improve technology in general is already pretty wide spread. Then again, many traditional (read: anachronistic) software companies go to great lengths to keep their customers unaware of or sceptical towards these developments.

It should be noted that Open Source does not necessarily mean free. Case in point.

True, though their Cedega does no longer fulfill the Open Spource Definition since some integral parts of its source are not available anymore and building in distributing even a crippled version from the CVS tree is actually discouraged by the company.

I should note that my opinion on Transgaming isn't a good one, no good at all.
