Preliminary Battle I
Listen to the following tracks, and select the one you like best.
Music From Legend of Xanadu II (PC Engine) - Immovable Fossil Algarna (PC88) - Mountain of a Patron
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Well, Immovable Fossil is pretty goddamned cool. Definitely gonna give it that; Mountain of a Patron, on the other hand, doesn't sound like as much when it starts, but it gets better as it builds along.
Patron gets a vote. |

Ah damn.. both tracks are some of my favorites from pre-voting listening.
I disagree with above, actually; I thnk Immovable Fossil gets better as it builds along, while Mountain of a Patron kind of stays the same. |
|
Never played either of these games so they're both firsts for me. Between these two, I like Xanadu II better. Mountain of a Patron is okay, but Xanadu II just pulls at me more. :P

Mountain of a Patron starts out good, but doesn't keep it up very long. Immovable Fossil, on the other hand, is short but sweet. Somehow I missed that one entirely on my first listen through.

Music From Legend of Xanadu II (PC Engine) - Immovable Fossil has a lot of movement and some very interesting writing. The synth is borderline, but I get a good vibe from it.
I've never even heard of the PC88, though if Algarna (PC88) - Mountain of a Patron is any indication it's probably unfairly overlooked by chiptune afficionados. Nice melody here, though it feels a bit short. Tough call this, but I think I'll go with Fossil. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Both have interesting melodies, yet I prefer the rhythm found in "Immovable Fossil".

Wow, already huh? Sorry I'm so behind on supplying nom rips.
Anyway, to the business at hand... Immovable Fossil is quite nice with a CV-style passage before the end, but Patron strikes me as the more descriptive and inspiring melody, and in the chiptune realm, that's key. DAMN good coffee!

Both are on par with each other. While Immovable Fossil is catchier and has more energay, Patron had the better melody (more melancholy mostly).
hmm, I reluctantly go with Immovable Fossil for more variety and a good end part. |
|
I like the sounds in Mountain of a Patron. It's melody is simple but not bad. Immovable Fossil is more complex, but I dislike the sounds in it, and the melody isn't too great. My vote goes for Mountain of a Patron.
I think, Therefore I can doubt my existence.
