Seiken Densetsu (GB) - Endless Battlefield VICE Project Doom (NES) - Stage 6
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

Well, Stage 6 is great for building atmosphere, but . . . not much else. Endless Battlefield has some really great melody going on, so I give it a vote.

Stage 6 really doesn't have much of a melody, and sounds like it's some sort of conversation with a boss right before fighting. Endless Battlefield wins for a great melody.

Seiken Densetsu (GB) - Endless Battlefield is one of the songs I'm intimately familiar with, and I toyed with nominating it myself. As an "overworld" theme of sorts, it pays the bills, with a nice, sweeping melody and slightly militaristic feel. Kenji Ito never seems to get his due, but I feel like this track is a good representative of his 8-bit discography.
The rhythm of VICE Project Doom (NES) - Stage 6 is well-done, even infectious. But without anything more substantial, it remains underdeveloped, a track with wasted potential. Endless wins it for me, hands down. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Yeah, I kept waiting for "Stage 6" to DO something. While there's nothing wrong with atmospheric tunes, this particular one isn't very interesting. Really no contest here.

Stage 6 reminds me of the "Norfair" theme from Metroid: it's some good, sultry background and suitably mysterious, but it doesn't stand out on its own.
Endless Battlefield does some nice things with the Gameboy's limitations and deserves the win. |
|
Endless Battlefield is a good track, according to all RPG music aspects. The only down side is that it is a bit short.
Stage 6 is a great base, but it's missing a melody, like the others mentioned. It would have probably gotten my vote if a good melody would have been layed on this cool rhythm. That's sad... |
|
VICE has a good Bionic Commando-style to its rhythms, but little development beyond that.
Battlefield sounds very much like an unreleased FF2j piece, which is also a compliment, and without a negative. DAMN good coffee!

Seiken Densetsu has damn good music. The melody runs pretty deep here. The whole game was rather depressing though. Actually this was because any track from this game has a depressing touch.
Stage 06 has a nice development, but in direct comparison the lack of melody is felt even more. Rather unfortunate. |
|
Endless battlefield sounds like a mix of battle music and overworld music from some RPG. It sounds generic, without having any interesting melody.
Stage 6 is.. repetitive, kinda. I like those dominating sounds there. They give an interesting feeling to it. I'll vote for it.
I think, Therefore I can doubt my existence.

Endless Battlefield got better and better as it went on, which is good, as I detested it once it started.
It's pretty rare for me to be voting for a track that has a better atmosphere than one that's just more interesting and enjoyable for me, but in this case, Stage 6 is really making the exception. I'll throw a vote it's way for being the first tune I listened to more than twice. |

VICE sounds serious while Seiken sounds a little more catchy. Sorry VICE but catchiness is gonna win this one.
