Preliminary Battle VIII

Listen to the following tracks, and select the one you like best.

Bio-Hazard Battle (Gen) - BGM 1
Ristar (Gen)- Dancing Leaves
Latest music rips (updated April 11, 2008):

Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?
Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros.

Currently playing: Nothing

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more

What else do I listen to?

well, after the intital WTF IS THIS wears off, BGM 1 is actually really kinda catchy, but it takes until 1:12 for that to happen and then it loops. I don't mind hearing the shit after the loop as much the second time around, but god.

The Ristar was a nom, too. Not hard for me to pick it, esp. since it's AWESOME.

I can honestly say I've never heard anything like Bio-Hazard Battle (NES) - BGM 1--it certainly has the advantage where originality's concerned. Once a melody kicks in, the track really cooks--but it's all to brief, as it loops almost immidiately thereafter. If the warbly bits were replaced with further melodic statements, this would be picture perfect. Incidentally, what relation, if any, does this have to the PS Biohazard?

Ristar (Gen)- Dancing Leaves is definitely more conventional than its opponent, and more satisfying in a traditional way. But, perhaps because of that, it feels rather mundane, like I've heard it all before.

I'll go with inventiveness over listenability for now--the creatively-titled BGM 1 gets the nod.

Bio-Hazard Battle was a Genesis game, not an NES game, although it's kind of a moot point since it's also up against a Genesis song.

Also, yet another case of "Why THAT song?" The rest of Bio-Hazard Battle soundtrack has a lot less crap surrounding the good parts of the songs. It's really quite the sleeper hit, both music and gameplay wise.

But regardless, Ristar comes in and stomps all over it. I'd vote for Dancing Leaves well through the primary contest.
You're lying, dammit! And I can prove it!

I can respect the effect Bio-Hazard was going for, but it comes through like an aural equivalent of water torture. Leaves is one of the better tracks on one of Sega's best soundtracks, so maybe the deck was stacked against it anyhow.

Dancing Leaves is fun, and has a lot going for it. But I slightly prefer the menacing sound (sounds like bones being pounded on... a cannibals' theme?) and catchy melody of BGM1.
Why didn't he just...

Two very good tracks here.
Despite the lack of a significant melody Bio-Hazard Battle (NES) - BGM 1 still manages to capture my interest. Something about the style, the beats and the mood is listenable beyond normal.

And Ristar simply is good music from a mile away. Bouncy and fun. The synth actually feels quite superior.

I can't clearly favor either, so I go with the one that has more wtf-effect.

BGM 1 has a.. start? It's probably background music, which changes from annoying to OK and finally has some parts where it almost starts being as a music should. That music wouldn't be too good.

Dancing Leaves starts a bit like that beach track from some other thread. It's not good, it's not bad and it's not interesting. I'll vote for it.

I thought all of BGM 1 was pretty cool, but 0:56-1:20 of Dancing Leaves is awesome. If that wasn't part of the song, I'd easily vote for BGM 1 here, but since it is...
