Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels? Super Off-Road - SNES rock from the Follin bros. Currently playing: Nothing Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more What else do I listen to? |

"Forest C" is absolutely beautiful. I love the piano (I'm a sucker for that instrument) and the Asian inspired melody is really nice. The incorporation of rushing water and bird chirping is a nice addition and I think it helps with this one.
"Pop Station Track 4" is certainly upbeat and has a semi-Western/electronic feel to it. It's an interesting fusion for sure! Man, this pairing might be tough to decide on. Quite the catchy piece for sure! "Electric Power Building" is probably one of my least favorites on the soundtrack. It's not inherently bad or anything, but it just doesn't speak to me that much. The orchestral/industrial fusion is interesting though. "Everland" is a decent vocal theme. It has an ethereal feeling to it. I'm more interested in the accompaniment to the vocals though, and although they do add a nice little touch to the piece, I rather prefer the instrumentation behind it. Vote for... Forest C, although the Sims piece was quite a pleasant surprise as well. |

"Forest C" was nice, in that meandering, aimless way. The background effects were cute but I think the entire piece could've been a little more active without suffering in tone.
"Pop Station Track 4" is an old SotW veteran whose vibrant charms never seem to diminish. I love it now just as I did the first time I heard it several years ago. "Electric Power Building" needs to die and never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever come back to the BSC. Everland had some great backing elements, and the singing functions more as a soft layer of synths than as a vocal layer. I'm not surprised that Kanno is the force behind this, not one bit. It's pretty enjoyable. My vote's going to "The Sims 2", however. It's become a classic in my personal library for a reason. |

Shenmue II - Forest C
Never played Shenmue; the series seems to evoke some pretty strong emotions from fans and detractors alike though. The ambient noise distracts from this piece without really adding anything, and the melody--while decent--isn't really compelling. Nor is it really developed; the only thing that changes is the birdsong and ocean waves. The Sims 2 - Pop Station Track 4 I remember this song from another contest; I think that it might have been last year's BSC. Can't recall how it did, but I still enjoy the easy combination of strings and electronics. Mark Mothersbaugh knows his stuff. Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter - Electric Power Building I've said my piece on this one many times before. I like it, but its continued vocal support baffles me on many levels. It's time for this one to retire. Ragnarok Online II - Everland While it has its share of clunkers, ROII is excellent when at its best. The use of a boy soprano is one of the stylistic threads that ties many of the tracks together, and the effect is just lovely, meshing well with a terrific melody and slight electronic touches. Some good songs here; the deciding factor for me wound up being how much baggage they're laden with. 1: Ragnarok Online II 2: The Sims 2 3: Breath of Fire V 4: Shenmue II

Ahh holy crap that Sims 2 track is seriously my favorite out of the whole game and I absolutely love it...It was hard not to just be like "vote for itttt" but I did listen to the others. Electric Power Building was one of the many I saved from the '06 contest so I know that one well and I love the build up. Forest C is..forestlike and pretty, although so is Everland. Everland is more enjoyable for me because of the light ethereal feeling, certainly. Makes me feel very happy and I'm totally saving to my comp..but I do really love the energy of Sims 2 track. So I voted for that but I'd be happy for any of these to go through.

Hmm, okay I'll bite on Everland. Normally I'm not huge on these types of tracks, but it's easily the best of the bunch here. Although I echo the sentiment that the instrumental part is by far the best part.
And yes...plz retire EPB.

It is a shame that Everland has to face a Sims song in the preliminaries. Both tracks are absolutely amazing, I gonna vote for Everland, but I would understand it if Pop Station Track 4 won this preliminiary match.

Tough choice here, selecting between Sims or Forest. I gave up and decided to support the piano.

Between Forest C and Pop Station, it's almost a coin flip. I went for Pop Station in the end since it's a bit more upbeat, but either way is great by me.

Oh my... my first tough round... Okay, let's see... Electric Power Building. No, it's time for some new songs in this contest. :P Then Track 4. Not bad but not good enough in comparison with its competitors. At last Forest C and Everland. Beautiful theme against Yoko Kanno... <5 minutes later> I want to vote for something so I take Forest C before I'm sitting here in front of that ten more minutes.

Wow just looking at the album titles, I can tell this will be a beast of a matchup.
- I still have not gotten around to fully beating Shenmue 2. Forest C definitely has happy shenmue moment feel to it. Especially with the birds chirping and the ocean sounds. Very soothing piece. I like. Oh and the game rip I have just has Forest as the title. I am missing the other Forest pieces I guess. - Pop Station Track 4 is really good as well. An addicting one. Tough to decide between the first two already. - Already well aware of Electricity Suppliant Building and have praised it ever since it was first nominated by Skate. Absolute beast, just a question of whether I want something else in this time. - Never got into the RO scene, yet Everland and its wordless vocals were quite pleasant. Downloading it without question. Electricity Suppliant Building is definitely the best track in my opinion, but I think I will give Forest C the vote, for something new and refreshing. Won't be upset at all if the former wins. All songs shall be saved from this GODLY matchup. (Kavanaugh hands out a piece of gum) Aceveda: No thank you. Kavanaugh: Nah come on this is a fresh pack, it's Juicy Fruit. (Aceveda stares at him for three seconds...)Aceveda: I said no...thank you. (holds it out still) Kavanaugh: hold this out long enough some people feel compelled to take the gum, it's a sign they'll crack under pressure. Aceveda: (with a smug look) I know. - The Shield Jon Kavanaugh: "He's just PISSING all over this department, and we're just supposed to lick it up! Do you like the way that tastes? (Lifts his hand up to his mouth) Because it tastes like.....PISS to me!" - The Shield |

Forest C - Hooray! It only sounds like every orchestral piece that tries to incorporate traditional Japanese themes into it ever.
Pop Station Track 4 - This song has been on my iPod for years, and makes for bitchin' driving music. Electric Power Building - NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. Everland - If you're going to attempt to make a bubbly song, don't pick a sleep-inducing singer.

Voted for Elec Building. Yeah, it doesn't need to be in here. Maybe I should have voted for The Sims 2 instead.
Additional Spam: Yeah, actually, if Elec Building gets the lead, just change my vote to The Sims 2.

Tranquil is just the right word for "Forest C". It's really gentle and atmospheric, with an ok orchestral accompaniment. Didn't blow me away, but it's nice.
Gentle like the previous track, but much more enjoyable in musical execution, "Pop Station - Track 4" is awesome! Great instrumental finishes and a fantastic melody make this one danceable, accessible, and worthy of my vote~ (Sims music rules, 'nuff said) The first time I heard "Electric Power Building", I fell in love with it. A year later, I still appreciated it. Now? Bleh. It's powerful, it's deep, it's heroic, etc...but damn, is wearing thin these days or what. "Everland" is one of my very favourite ROII pieces. <3 I love the bubbly, ethereal atmosphere, the innocuous child vocals and the hearty, graceful melody. Lovely. "Forest C" - 7/10 "Pop Station - Track 4" - 8.5/10 "Electric Power Building" - 4.5/10 "Everland" - 8.5/10 |

- Forest C was very pretty and soothing; I liked it a good deal.
- Pop Station Track 4 is even better; it's bubbly and engaging without being grating, which is tough to pull off. - Electric Power Building is one of my favorites, though admittedly this is my first Best Song contest and I'm not familiar with the history behind the song except that it's apparently been in every contest thus far. I'll give my vote to some new blood. - Everland is the weakest song here, but it's still not bad. Tough matchup! Voting for Pop Station Track 4. |
|
Forest C is far too airy for my tastes; Pop station - track 4 is addictive but it doesn't stick in the mind at all; Electric Power Building... I guess I can see why it's so popular but it takes far too long to do anything. So I guess that leaves Everland, it's interesting so will get the vote here, not the biggest kanno fan in the world.
