I wish someone would have nominated Passing Through the Forest for this contest again. That Dew Prism track deserved another shot after so unjustly being thrown out early before -- unlike Full of Hopes, which has the Dew Prism bounciness but little of its more complex qualities (in fact, I couldn't even find it in my version initially, where its labeled Fancy Feeling).

But back to the task at hand. The Sakuraba track thankfully isn't all the way typical Sakuraba. Hot Snow is distinctive for sure. And Super Dodgeball is your winner.

Dew Prism - Full of Hopes
This sounds like your typical cheery, upbeat Nakano track to me. Has a highly infectious melody that is seriously lacking in further development outside of the 45 second loop. Without any additional variation, this can get rather repetitive.

Fantasy Zone (arcade) - Hot Snow
This is A fairly decent Sega piece that has a laid back melody and manages to incorporate some Caribbean instrumentation, which is always a good thing. The melody develop itself fairly well, but doesn’t manage to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack.

Super Dodge Ball - Multiplayer Theme
Ah, here is yet another highly enjoyable NES synth piece, that manages to stand with the rest of the bracket. The melody is quite epic (for NES standards), and the synth programming is decent. This would have received my stamp of approval had Tales not blown it completely away.

Tales of the Abyss - The Arrow Was Shot
Wow, this is a great track. The melody is great, and the synth/guitar work is really fun to listen to. The guitar and synth solos were particularly well done, and are used to effectively build the track into an exciting resolution by the end of the loop. Overall sound quality is very clear and the mix is not muddled at all (which is what has always bugged me about post-SNES Sakuraba.) This is the clear winner of this bracket.

You people need to learn to appreciate short songs with little to no development. Full of Hopes is awesome.

Dew Prism - Full of Hopes - the sound is somewhat pleasant, but the piece itself is too repetitive.

Fantasy Zone (arcade) - Hot Snow - got a nice, happy feel. A bit repetitive...

Tales of the Abyss - The Arrow Was Shot - Sakuraba delivers another good battle theme.

Super Dodge Ball - Multiplayer Theme - nice old school tune. Love those.

Hmm... Voted for "Multiplayer Theme" in the end, but considered voting for "The Arrow Was Shot" instead.

Full of Hopes

My choice is currently limited between closing this sweeter-than-aspartame sugarfest of a song and putting a 9mm bullet into my skull.

Decision, decisions.

Hot Snow

My choice is currently limited between closing this sweeter-than-aspartame sugarfest of a song and putting a 9mm bullet into my skull.

The Arrow Was Shot

It's not 8-bit saccharine = It's off to a good start.

It sounds like Motoi Sakuraba, and is = It's going down a road that sounds way too familiar.

There is quite a bit of synth in it, but not The-First-Black-Mages excessive = It's close to the finishing line.

The last song is old school ROCKIN' in all sorts of awesome = So close, no cigar, Sakuraba.

Dew Prism - Full of Hopes - This is nice but it gets really really repetitive after a while. Would be a contender if only the melody was more varied.

Fantasy Zone (arcade) - Hot Snow - So happy that it's cavity inducing.

Tales of the Abyss - The Arrow Was Shot - Isn't this a remix of a track from Tales of Destiny? Or multiple tracks from other Tales games? It sounds awfully familiar. How sneaky of Sakuraba. Anyway it's dynamic and awesome just like all his other battle themes.

Super Dodge Ball - Multiplayer Theme - Catchy tune and it's not grating on the ears. Too bad there's the Tales song in this battle.

Dew Prism - Full of Hopes: Hey, awesome track! Very exciting, lot of variety, I should make a remix out of it. 8/10

Fantasy Zone (arcade) - Hot Snow: This is not a good track because first of all it doesn't sound like "Hot snow" and second, it is way too noisy. 4/10

Tales of the Abyss - The Arrow Was Shot: The Arrow was shot, laffo. Well what can I say about this one, typical Sakuraba battle theme, nothing special. It's okay, but I want some more extraordinary tracks to reach the next round, so this one doesn't get me vote. 7/10.

Super Dodge Ball - Multiplayer Theme: Seriously, I won't vote for anything like that. 1/10

Hot Snow reminds me of Flintstones on NES (especially the beeping sound, some large dinosaurs made that).

Dew Prism - Full of Hopes
Nakano has an inate ability to drive a song with his masterful sense of timing and rhythm. This is evident in almost every piece he conjurs up -- "Full of Hopes" is no exception. This is an uptempo piece with a deliberately lighthearted tone. Unfortunately, the solid beat can't make up for its shear lack of development. The novelty wears off and quickly turns this track into a bordem fest. Shame too, as this one had some potential.

Fantasy Zone (Arcade) - Hot Snow
Full of fun and full of cheese. A nice little hop, skip, and jump for a minute 52, then it's back to reality. Effective within the context of the game, but a really weak contender on its own.

Tales of the Abyss - The Arrow Was Shot
Sakuraba has such a unique style that sets him apart from the rest. This track is quite telling of his ability to compose addictive and memorable music. "...Arrow" is everything I thought it would be: a synth-laden, progressive rock track with just enough elements to make it dynamic. This is familiar territory for Mr. S, but that tired cliché seems to work for him here.

Super Dodge Ball - Multiplayer Theme
An old school track that seems to grow better with age. It's quite upbeat, and isn't as repetitive as some of the other chippers in this contest. Never was that melodic, but its appropriately 'grungy' and seems to fall into a niche category of its own. Honestly, I'm getting a headache from all this nostalgia!

Just to say this, I set Dew Prism as my honorable mention.
Yes it's repetitive, but the melody is worth an oscar... sounds like something from an arcade in Disney Land.
