Chase: For a soundtrack that's comprised of nothing but movie scene music, this has a surprising old-school vibe to it. I'm surprised Kajiura did this and not Hosoe. Great stuff. Can someone who's played the game explain what's supposed to be going on here? 9/10
Jungle -A Lush Load-: Pretty, but boring. Really boring. 4.5/10 Operation Nebula Blaze: If you're going to lay down a techno backdrop, this is the right way to complement it. Great melody and the underlying beats have great energy behind it. Great track. 9/10 Two great surprises here. I think Chase has the ever-so-slight edge, but I hope either it or Nebula Blaze advances.
I'm taking over this town...
I'm screaming for vengenace... I'm shouting at the devil... I'm not dead and I'm not for sale... Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time...

Sendspace, normally so reliable, is puking out on me a lot today. I can't get it to process Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose - Chase--it just churns and churns before returning a 500 error
Luckily, Galbadia Hotel to the rescue. This tune is a surprisingly energetic and sprightly techno track, though at one point it sounds like the drummer had an epileptic seizure, and the oriental violin is so out of place it hurts. When Phantasy star is good, it's very very good, but when it's bad, it's Phantasy Star Online Version 2 - Jungle -A lush load-. This is essentially five minutes of aimless techno noodling that doesn't even succeed at being ambient. I remember Project Sylpheed - Operation Nebula Blaze from SoTW, where it was criminally robbed of placement. The track is full of movement and energy, with a driving techno backdrop that complements its more traditional parts. Very strong. Vote's for Nebula Blaze. ![]() From goop we came, to goop we return.

Order of preference:
Operation Nebula Blaze Chase A Lush Load "Operation Nebula Blaze" was denied glory in SotW, and that still bugs me a bit. It's a fantastic piece that deserves plenty of recognition. "Chase" is just...weird. Very unpredictable but not horrible. "A Lush Load" does very little for me. There's absolutely nothing holding it together. |
|
No chance for Chase or A Lush Load. Nebula isn't great, but its damn good.
(Kavanaugh hands out a piece of gum) Aceveda: No thank you. Kavanaugh: Nah come on this is a fresh pack, it's Juicy Fruit. (Aceveda stares at him for three seconds...)Aceveda: I said no...thank you. (holds it out still) Kavanaugh: hold this out long enough some people feel compelled to take the gum, it's a sign they'll crack under pressure. Aceveda: (with a smug look) I know. - The Shield Jon Kavanaugh: "He's just PISSING all over this department, and we're just supposed to lick it up! Do you like the way that tastes? (Lifts his hand up to his mouth) Because it tastes like.....PISS to me!" - The Shield |

Chase
This is the good shit. I love that ringmodded guitar sound overtop of everything, and the drumming is so goddamn fun and wow and <3. (1) Jungle Ambient. Bullshit. That's about all this is. (3) Operation Nebula Blaze Pretty awesome techno backbeat to some symphonic stuff. (2) |
: Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose - Chase : Phantasy Star Online Version 2 - Jungle -A lush load- : Project Sylpheed - Operation Nebula BlazeI've never been big on Operation Nebula Blaze. Yeah, it's there. So what. All this hate on Jungle makes me want to vote for it with a passion, because it's pure ambient love. Absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, chase is the best track off the X2 movie scene ST, so you can be sure I'm going to vote for it here. Gotta love the drum solo and the fadeout transition in the middle that somehow works. Unusually awesome synthin' from Kajiura as well. |
|
"Chase" is nice. Probably my favourite track from that specific soundtrack. "Operation Nebula Blaze" is also quasi-amazing, but fails by a fairly large margin here in comparison. Don't make me mention jungle...

Phantasy Star Online Version 2 - Jungle -A lush load-: Not bad, but I can imagine it works a lot better setting the mood to the game than as a stand alone track, at least if you have not experienced it in-game before.
Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose - Chase: I've heard many of her anime soundtracks, but this was the first game track by Kajiura I've listened to. Would never have guessed if it wasn't for the typical strings at 1:30. Project Sylpheed - Operation Nebula Blaze: Similar to the Xenosaga one - a fast, fairly catchy track. Kind of generic, but not all bad. I like the loops of "Chase" better though. |

You people are odd ducks. Not because either Chase or Operation Nebula Blaze is going to win, they're both great tracks. Jungle -A Lush Load- melts me every time and it's getting dumped on, something harsh. It's not even ambient the way you would get annoyed at an ambient track. Its sound is striking, you take notice that it's playing, and it evolves.
It's not techno and it's not crap. You're crap. ![]() |

Hey, I liked all three tracks in this pairing and it was a rather tough vote. I'm prolly one of the few that likes the PSO track, but still. =x
Careful, He Might Hear You - "The Birthday Party" Get the Flash Player to play this audio file: Composed and Conducted by Ray Cook |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq-FY4wLUr4 Jungle -A lush load-: Not a bad song, just too long and too ambient for my taste. Chase: A pretty good song, but not one of my favorites from episode 2. It was sorta remixed and put in a minigame in episode 3, that's where I remember it from more then from that one time scene in episode 2. Operation Nebula Blaze: Loving it. A nice unexpected surprise. It definately gets my vote. ![]() Soldier: Prepare yourself, rebel scum!! Arngrim : (These slipshod soldiers think they can call me "rebel scum"?) |

Chase = The #1 way to misuse a violin.
The PSO track too bland. I cannot really follow the tune. Sylpheed is a very nice mix of orchestra with modern music. I guess I will vote for it. |
Thus further exemplifying why Xenosaga is such a terrible series. |

Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose - Chase
- Quite interesting. The percussion improv caught my ear, but not the old school melody. Not enough to keep it on my computer, but enough to say that I don't mind listening to it. Phantasy Star Online Version 2 - Jungle -A lush load- - I think "peaceful jungle" when I hear this. Doesn't appear to go anywhere in particular so I don't like it. Project Sylpheed - Operation Nebula Blaze - It's all right. I like the quarter beat bass but not much else. It reminded me of Secret of Mana at first, inexplicably. Spoiler:

I'm leaning towards Chase, but it and Operation Nebula Blaze sound similar in my mind anyways. Jungle... sorry.
