Wikipedias list of cancelled games

The name says it all, enjoy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ed_video_games

Uh, yeah.

So, is this a thread about the Wikipedia link (because that's not a thread).

OR

Is this a thread where we talk about cancelled games that we were looking forward to? If it's this thread, edit your first post into a good post.

Well, i wanted people to talk about which games they wished had come out. As much as id like to say something about "edit it into a good post" im sure you would get pissed off and ban me, so i dont really know what to tell you. I was only posting a link that i found was kinda neat and wanted to see what everyone else thought about it to. Is that better? Does that meet your standards? Either way ill make longer posts next time.

K_ Takahashi Jun 5, 2006 02:39 PM

a friend of mine was like

"40 winks was suppossed to come out for that system?"

I cant help but call a portion of the list a failure to launch on other systems.

Stealth Jun 5, 2006 02:51 PM

Wasn't there supposed to be a Final Fantasy 64 that got cancellled or something?

It was just a Final Fantasy tech demo for Nintendo 64 featuring characters from FFVI.

guyinrubbersuit Jun 5, 2006 03:03 PM

I wanted Freak Boy to come out. :( It looked neat where the main character was segmented into three portions that could be changed out for puzzle and weapon purposes. It was supposed to come out for the N64 and then 64DD.

A boy and his Blob for DS... I haven't checked lately, but I never knew it was cancelled??

Skexis Jun 5, 2006 03:12 PM

Ah, Fallout 3. How we long for thee. I mean, honestly, who fires a dev team when a game is 95% completed?

What really would have been cool is if the devs released a set of tools so people could make their own modules for Fallout. I bet that would have spawned some righteous post-apoc gaming.

ApOcaLyPSe_1985 Jun 5, 2006 03:30 PM

Awesome link, now I can cry about the games that we're supposed to be released :p
Boohoohoo, give back my X-COM! :(

Freelance Jun 5, 2006 04:05 PM

I'm pretty sure I've posted in a very similiar thread before, but that could've been before the crash.

I was really looking forward to Simsville, but they cancelled it because it didn't fit their needs or whatever. PPPFT. Instead, they added a feature in SC4 where you can let your Sim live in your city, but it was obvious they just added that in at the last minute, since they don't DO anything otherwise.

Simsville was to be a cross between SimCity and The Sims, two of my favourite games. Crap.

Aww a Kid Icarus game for SNES was scrapped? How disappointing. I wonder if Nintendo is ever going to bring the franchise back. Maybe I'm the only one that liked the Gameboy/NES games.

I don't even think it was for Nintendo 64. It was just a Square demo showing off what they could do with 3D characters/animation. Everybody just assumed it was a Final Fantasy demo for the Nintendo 64 at the time. One of the mysteries of that particular time.

ApOcaLyPSe_1985 Jun 5, 2006 06:06 PM

Yeah I thought the same thing. What was the cause? I'm sure the game sold pretty good.

Ah, Black & White for GBC. It was doomed to fail anyway, how can you recreate the same gameplay with those limitations? Also, Dune Generations was one of the MMORPGS I looked forward too. Who doesn't want to wander in the Dune universe?

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 (Dreamcast version) available for PlayStation 2 and PC, with an incomplete version having been released by pirate groups
Hmm, that's interesting, I had speculated this might happen but I didn't know it actually did. I'd almost like to try it just to see what it's like (I hate how the PS2 version runs in the "half-resolution" mode that most early PS2 games do). Anyone here have any idea how close the game was to complete the Dreamcast version was and if it's mostly playable?

Still, an interesting list, it's amazing just how many there were. Kinda brings back sad memories, but what are you gonna do. Oh, and I finally made a contribution to Wikipedia: I added "Outcast 2" to the list :)

Oh, and there's already a PS3 game that was canceled? The console isn't even close to coming out yet!

Yeah, it was one of the first games announced for the system, then it sorta vanished forever after the initial screenshots were released over a year ago. I was kinda looking forward to that too. If only to see if it'd be as awful as the box art. Blob turned into snot? Alright!

This list of canned games is depressing because it contains Pilotwings 64 II, Pilotwings for GameCube, a sequel to Marble Madness and a Lemmings arcade game. ;_;

espressivo Jun 5, 2006 08:22 PM

Whoa, Starcraft: Ghost canceled? Since when?
I guess it was bound to happen since the game has been in development for such a long time and still hasn't come out. I seriously forgot all about that game...

Yeah but Fear & Respect was gonna go to PS2, PS3, Xbox and Xbox 360 and then the entire project got scrapped. For some reason, I kind of wanted that game even if it was another "gangsta" game. Probably because I had just seen Boyz n the Hood the day I learned about that John Singleton was involved with it. *shrug* the Game Informer preview made it look kind of interesting. *hides*

The Ghost Jun 5, 2006 09:38 PM

Heh i could see starcraft ghost being cancelled....How long has that been in production 5 years? getting on up there with duke nukem forever.

BlueMikey Jun 6, 2006 12:34 AM

I don't know who in their right mind would ever cancel a sequel to Snake, Rattle, 'n' Roll. They need to make this up to us, like, now, with a new game for the DS. That first one is one of the best NES games out there, top 20 for sure. Make a new one, damnit. :\

pyrus421 Jun 6, 2006 12:46 AM

Someone must've went back into time to stop Starcraft Ghost from releasing..

scotty Jun 6, 2006 01:08 AM

lol halo for sega dreamcast! I really wish Commander Keen 6 was released for the PC though, man were those games kick ass!

ApOcaLyPSe_1985 Jun 6, 2006 06:13 AM

Commander Keen for teh win :)
Man, I played those games to the death. From what i've read, the original creator got kind of pissed when seeing Super Mario 64. He mentioned he was always wondering how to bring Keen in 3D but never knew how. Then Nintendo showed up with Mario and he was like OMG IDEA STOLEN and never recovered from it or something :p

Kilroy Jun 6, 2006 06:36 AM

I too would have loved more Commander Keen. So good;_;
Messiah for Dreamcast would have been a blast. I've never played it, but it looked so fun!
Aliens: Colonial Marines looked awesome. Best use of a licens ever, and then they canceled it. I still mourn the loss...:(

You might be surprised. I bought the PC version back around the time that it came out because it was a bargain price, and I wanted something different to play.

It came with a patch CD in the box, which should have been my first indication that it might not be up to par. Turns out the gameplay itself wasn't bad. Very hard, but not bad. The AI seemed to be pretty twitchy, though, so sometimes even the smallest mistake would call down a world of shit on you. It also crashed on me a few times, and the sound never worked right with my soundblaster card. It also kept defaulting to direct draw because it didn't like my 3dfx drivers I guess.

Although, to be fair, it was better than Geist. God, the shooter part of that game should have just been cut out entirely.

eriol33 Jun 8, 2006 04:46 AM

I wish nintendo had released the english version of animal crossing in N64 back then. :(
