Best P2P Program

What do you think is the best P2P program? Personally, I like Shareaza (http://www.shareaza.com) because it connects to the Gnutella 1, Gnutella2 and eDonkey networks, and has a bunch of cool features such as remote access.

What about you? Please don't say "Bittorent".

RushJet1 Mar 3, 2006 03:56 AM

bittorrent.

ok now, seriously, i use kazaa lite resurrection if anything... and that's because i didn't bother to uninstall it for so long.

i haven't actually used any of the other programs since a year and a half ago. i remember bearshare being pretty horrible though.

Snowknight Mar 3, 2006 08:10 AM

I like BCDC++ for DC++ things. I will occasionally use DC++, because the good hubs aren't littered with complete crap. Of course, that being said, most good hubs have insane share requirements, defeating most good that could come out of them for me. (That is, I don't have 80GB of stuff readily available to share.)
I don't really like Kazaa/Limewire, and Shareaza is unbelievably slow for me :\

As far as BitTorrent is concerned (which is essentially the most versatile and solid P2P network), µTorrent is the way to go.

RagnarokX Mar 3, 2006 09:15 AM

Probably the best program I have come across is mIRC. It's not a normal p2p program, and its fairly hard to use, but once you know how to use it, you can get anything you want, just about. So if your up for it, here

Roph Mar 3, 2006 09:24 AM

I mainly searh for torrents (uTorrent) primarily, then if I can't find what I'm after, then I'll look around on Gnutella/eDonkey with shareazaa. If I still can't find it I'll look around IRC.

Also don't forget http - RapidShared and Megauploaded have gotten me quite alot of neat stuff.

Finally if I still don't have what I'm after, then I'll either give up, or try GFF Requests forum / FTPs as a last resort.

That's probably becuase Shareaza relies heavily on the edonky network, which is notorious for day-long ques and slow speeds. However, If you just let them sit for awhile, they will pick up a decent speed within a day or two.

wishfire Mar 3, 2006 01:26 PM

If I can't find it using BitTorrent, I'll use DC++. But since it's not always reliable, I'll head to soulseek. Not the best, but decent as a last resort and generally has what I want.

Tawnee Van Pelt Mar 3, 2006 01:35 PM

Bittorrent all the way. I've been using Emule lately and I'm very satisfied, you can get good stuff there, so it's my second choice.

I used to hang out at GFF Hub but it was kind of boring. Ares is my third option when it comes to individual songs, you know the classic escenario: "Dude, do you remember that song from the 90's... *goes download*"

I meant the application itself; I know that any download is bound to take time.

It's worth adding that, with mIRC, you'll need to know IRC servers and, therein, appropriate channels in which things can be found.

But sites such as www.ircspy.com and www.packetnews.com do let you do a pretty comprehensive XDCC search, provided the channel is registered on those respective sites I think, and its simply a click and paste job to download your file. Although I'm not entirely sure on the amount of channels they actually search.

Makes using IRC all the more hassle free though.

In my opinion I'd go:

1) Bit torrent.

2) DC++.

3) Limewire.

4) Emule.

5) IRC.

Do people actually still use shareaza? To me that is like so old school.

Agent Olive Mar 3, 2006 04:26 PM

I use BitTorrent for the most part, although for single songs I just use Limewire.

How is Shareaza in any way "old school"?

And for those of you who use mIRC or IRC, what servers/channels whatever do you go to to get files?

BlueMikey Mar 3, 2006 08:26 PM

I use torrents for any TV shows I need.

I pretty much exclusively use IRC for music, since it is easier to get older stuff there. Plus, it is still the safest way to download music, not that it seems like the RIAA is going after anyone anymore. It takes just a little bit more work.

I pretty much just use #mp3passion and #mp3_collective on Undernet.

Cyrus XIII Mar 3, 2006 09:24 PM

My main OS being Linux, I use BitTornado to grab current and aMule for older stuff. P2P is off limits for my Windows install, for obvious reasons.

Neogin Mar 3, 2006 10:01 PM

Besides Bittorrent, I usually use Limewire. It has always worked wonders for me..

Kaiten Mar 3, 2006 10:13 PM

I use uTorrent for all my P2P needs. No massive RAM usage BS and the fact that I can easily download a little and then continue later is a major plus. If they made BT anonymous, I'd be using it all the time...

Free.User Mar 3, 2006 10:35 PM

For BT I use azearus (sp?). It's a RAM hog, but I can live with that.

I thought it was a RAM hog too, but it seems to work fine on Server 2003 without the massive slowdown I encountered when using it on XP Pro. Of course, there are evident reasons for that being true.
Azureus, despite memory useage, remains the most full-featured client.

Shadow Drax Mar 4, 2006 05:20 PM

BitTorrent, currently I'm using ABC and BitLord. (Well, BitLord is banned from some trackers, so thats when I use ABC!) I used to use LimeWire, but I gave up on it a long time ago.

RYU Mar 4, 2006 06:12 PM

DC++ is best and IRC is really great, and i hate Bittorent

Free.User Mar 4, 2006 06:14 PM

What hub list are you using for DC++?

I'd use IRC, but I never took the time to learn how to use it and probably never will...

Sweeper Mar 4, 2006 10:44 PM

Limewire is pretty good. Then emule is probally the best for finding really rare files
