PC to HDTV (via HDMI) issues

This issue seems to be a bit too difficult to google for some reason but I feel like it's a simple fix...

I have an LG TV. Not sure if the model is important here.

The Comp is running windows 7 and has an hdmi port on it. Connecting it to the TV with the appropriate hdmi cable has no effect. The computer doesn't detect anything, the TV will act as though something is happening for a brief moment, then nothing.

The PC won't recognize it. I've clicked around the display settings, clicked "detect", looked around, nothing.

HALP!

What sort of comp? I know with certain laptops, you need a keystroke. Shift + F11 or some such thing to do it.

Windows key and P is the shortcut to connect to a Projector in Windows 7, that might be what you're after.

I run my laptop through our LG tv usign an rgb cable and the options to set that up are under Graphics Properties on a desktop background right click.

wow, deni, that... actually worked.

I mean, it was strange. I was hitting the f keys and knew, yes, KNEW it wasn't going to work because I knew what each one did. Brightness, wlan on/off, keyboard lights bright/dim, then a key with a Zz on it. I hit it, knew it was going to go into standby, but when it came back the TV was suddenly connected.

AMAZING, PROBLEM SOLVED!

Not sure if you're using the same Asus as I am right now, but this one works with the Fn+F8 combo. (Right after what looks like brightness down, brightness up, and monitor off.)

F9 disables the touchpad if you're using an external mouse and still have a tendency to tap it while typing.
