Someone left their car running outside my place.
 

I went out with my friend for a bit today and got back at around 6:00 and this white car is running parked outside with the keys in the car and nobody in it. It's 3 am here now, 9 hours later, and the thing is STILL running with the key in the ignition and nobody in it. I have no idea who's car it is and not going to knock on 20 apartment doors to find out.

Kinda weird, never encountered this kind of mistake before. Who leaves their keys in the ignition and the car running and forgets to turn it off? Locking your keys in the car, leaving a light on, leaving a door unlocked I understand. This is weird though, I wonder if some type of bomb is in the car or they are daring someone to steal it. I didn't check to see if the door was locked. If not I could just get in and drive away with it.

Should I call the police and report it? I don't even know how to call the police.

It doesn't seem 911 worthy.

There was a Lincoln Continental parked outside our building for 3 weeks at work.

On the third week we egged it after work. It was gone the next day.

If I were you, I'd call the cops, let them deal with it. It'll probably get towed. Serves the dumb bastards right for just leaving it there. Better than being stolen at least.

Or you could just steal the sumbitch and go joyriding until it runs out of gas. Also a good way to teach a lesson.

EDIT: For the local police (not 911) look in the phone book (please tell me you have one. If not, you can either borrow one from a neghbor, run to the nearest payphone for one, or call a friend and have them look up the number) under Law Enforcement, I think.

Isn't there a local police number that you have? 911 is for emergancies, you should have a local number to the police station.

The guy probably got murdered.

Man, with gas prices how they are these days, you'd have to be an idiot to purposely (hell, even accidentally) leave your car like this. You should definitely call the police about it (I'm surprised none of your neighbors haven't done it already).

I did and talked to the cop. He gave me an attitude. Said to me "and you're just reporting it now?" I said, I went around to the store at 10, noticed it was still running, I didn't think 3/4 hours was enough to report it, but 9 hours is a bit much.

He's running the plates.

Edit: The cop left, but the thing is still running. There's probably anthrax leaking out of the exhaust right now.

Man, Philadelphia PD sounds like a helpful bunch. Seriously, why the hell is a cop gonna come there and just leave with the same problem still going on? That's not very efficient!

Maybe the plates matched a house on another street? I don't know....

Anyway, I don't know why he left. Procedure is to secure the car until they can find the owner and to stay there.

Not long ago right in front of my house one of neighbors car alarm start beeping and no one even try to turn it off it was on for like 4-5 hours and then finally someone called the police to check it. They just came write down the plate numbers and drive away...? Alarm was on from 7 PM till like 8-9 AM... horrible.
