It is widely accepted that civilization in tribal form wars between each over competition for resources but were fiercely communal among their own tribes.

Depending on how much SPACE and RESOURCE there actually is, and how fast a population grows, competition can be either tight or slack.

When humans were more like animals, yea, they were better. But it didn't take them long to start THINKING.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to think.

Haha you think man before us was worse than he is today? Why? Since when did technological advancement change our attitudes?
I just gave specific examples. If 9/11 had happened to the Romans, they'd have killed every man, woman, and child in Afghanistan and salted the earth in their wake. The United States is actually getting shit for torturing people (and they're not even using racks, and thumb screws), when just a few hundred years ago it was standard practice. What more do you want?

By my estimation, humanity has moved all the way up to a D-minus. At this rate, in another hundred years we might even reach a C. That's some monumental social change there.

Also, just exactly what recorded history past 5000 BC are you talking about? Cave drawings and broken pottery don't exactly constitute a comprehensive historical record. We hadn't even invented writing yet.

Darfur you say? You should totally watch this. Wonder why the media all of a sudden decided to concentrate on Darfur, when such atrocities were happening there for many many years.

I like how all of you ignore all the great things people have done. Yay for pessimism!

Bill Gates? He donated already over a billion to charities, and plans on donating three billion soon. $750 million were donated for worldwide infant vaccination.

How about all those social workers? Church leaders? Volunteer workers? People who dedicated their lives saving people? Relief workers? The good deeds millions are never brought to the medias attention. It's only media worthy if someone gets fucked over, or someone donates an extraordinary amount of money.

Have any of you actually done something to change the world? Or have you just been, you know, bitching about how the world sucks. Community service perhaps? Donated money? Volunteered somewhere? Random acts of kindness to random people?

Yes, the world is a shitty place to live sometimes, but bitching about how humanity is fucked up isn't going do anything. You know there are people actually out there trying to make this a better place to live, yet they are totally ignored and unappreciated.

Dance party!
I expected someone like you. What did you expect?

I get what you are trying to say, and that's nice. But...

When people make such determined attempts to excuse poor behaviour it's disgusting. The whole, people are bad, they'll never improve etc. line of arguing is just a lame way of excusing one's desire to not strive for a better way. Calling historical examples out doesn't help either, just an excuse to allow/encourage doing the same shitty things that we *know* are wrong.

To bring up the good things that people have done, and the good examples of people you can think of is more or less the same thing. It's A-o.k. to allow/commit genocide because we've done good stuff too. I mean, you wouldn't want to be good all the time right?

Have I ever mentioned that I have no idea what you're talking about half the time? I honestly don't know if that was a high-five or a snarky put-down.

I know what some people are doing is horribly wrong. People trying to rationalize their behaviors are the worst. Let's invade some country because they aren't Christian! Who cares if we kill millions? For the Glory of God! Let's convert them!

But how about all the good things people have done? Don't you think some of the great deeds people have done give you hope? Though she passed away, how about Mother Theresa? Ghandi? Martin Luther King Jr? Though the latter two were assassinated, they left a huge beneficial imprint on humanity.

I'm just saying though there are people who commit crimes, there are also people trying to fix them. I mean if people did absolutely nothing about these crimes, by all means, losing faith in humanity is probably inevitalbe. But there really are people trying to fix the world, making it their life's work. Doesn't that at least give you hope? Make you feel less repugnant?

Dance party!

History is not a prospective assessment system for domestic and foreign policy of the day.

Psh, the good deeds of man seem to be covered up by the wrong doings of what others do. Besides, humanity is chaos. It's where all the evils and all the good just mix, intertwine, blend, and make a smoothie out of.
War without honor is nothing but massacre
