Hawkeye State Showdown

I received this e-mail the other day:

Off-topic rant:
Chris Dodd is the only candidate to whom I’ve ever contributed during a nominating race.

Part of the reason is that I usually haven’t had any money to spare, but the larger part is that he was the only candidate who has put his reputation and influence where his mouth is to defend the Constitution of the United States from the depridations of the Current Federal Administration.

And he learned from his Daddy’s mistakes and stayed squeaky clean throughout his public career. Fare thee well, Mr. Dodd.

The e-mail came the day after the Iowa Caucus and, I imagine, was brought on by the complete and utter lack of support. However, Chris Dodd dropping out of the race is far from the only consequence to the recent activity in Iowa (it just happens to be the one I know most about). So, GFF, my question to you is this: How do you think the Iowa Caucus will effect the rest of the campaign? What are your thoughts on the results? Long term as well as short term speculations are welcome.

Me? Well, after I read the above e-mail I decided all was lost and open revolt was the only answer left. I'm stockpiling arms and ammo as we speak, and I welcome all recruits to ALF (American Liberation Front).

Okay, seriously, for the first time it looks like we may have a black president before a woman one, and the record turnout is, hopefully, forshadowing similar numbers across the country. So far the GOP goes the only real solid consequence is, I think, the death-nail in the Giuliani campaign. Now it's your turn, let's hear it.

A word to the wise is infuriating.

I think shit could still come down. Remember, after the Iowa results were announced, Howard Dean was the major, major front-runner. And if the Democrats weren't so fucking stupid, he probably would have beaten Bush in the general.

If Hillary doesn't win New Hampshire, I think Obama just has to not make mistakes. Thank goodness for the youth vote, IMO.

As far as the Republicans go, who the fuck knows what they are doing. Huckabee winning is the worst possible candidate for them, as he will get almost no cross-over. America likes people from Arkansas who are morally objectionable, not Jesus freaks.

Actually, Howard Dean didn't win Iowa. That's why he ended up dropping out eventually.

However, when Bill Clinton ran in 1992, he didn't win anything until Georgia. So nothing is set in stone yet. I think a lot of young people are voting because they're sick of the way the country is being run now, and perhaps out of fear of the consequences of an ongoing war (wars need soldiers). And oh it would also be nice to see some Social Security when i'm 65 and need it.

Oh wow, you're right. I had it in my mind that Dean's YEEEHAWW was a result of winning. Dunno how that stuck in my head like that. :P

If the young people stay energized, I don't think anyone has a chance against Obama.
