The Clinton Dead-Enders are generally wrapped up in identity politics. McCain choosing a woman VP makes sure they won't vote for Barack.
It's true. My mom is a Hil-Rod supporter, and it breaks my heart that she's thrilled about this. The very best female politician the Democrats could come up with wasn't good enough to be president, so our consolation prize is some pretty cotton-head from some wasteland of a state? Seriously?

MOM YOU KNOW THE ONLY REASON SHE GOT THE JOB IS CUZ SHE LOOKS GOOD ON HER KNEES

so looking forward to this and other awkward arguments.

MY COUSIN PALIN WOULD GIVE US A ROYAL WELCOME

(sorry)

I also agree with the notion that this is grab for dismayed female Democrats. In before the Hillary-Sarah catfights~

I'm also trying to avoid making any comments about her being pro-life and having a retarded child, to be civil. Really straining...

...just keep him away from the briefcase with the button in it.

Well I don't think it's necessarily that. It's more along the lines that the very best female politician the democrats could come up with wasn't good enough to to beat how many Malcom X wannabe's that would flare up in protest over the next four years if a black man didn't have a 50/50 shot of being president.

What I find sickening about this falls along the lines of most female voters were backing Hillary because she was a strong, outspoken candidate for the most part, but as lurker pretty much nailed it, McCain is hoping that just having a set of tits sitting next to him will get him elected.

I mean, come on...you women burned bra's a few decades ago to protest this kind of shit.

Seems like a really cheap ploy to gain more female voters since Clinton half-assed her convention speech.

I have a prediction for Palin. Once she has been used as the tool that clintontards cannot see with their blind rage, McCain will toss her aside and keep her in the kitchen, where she shall remain for the next 4 years.

That's a piss poor prediction, since no one expects McCain's shambling corpse to keep its structural integrity over four years of presidentin'.

The thing about Palin is that she's a hardcore right wing nutjob. Creationist. Pro gun. Pro ANWR drilling (although pretty much every politician in Alaska is). Anti-abortion except if the mother's life is in jeopardy. Raped? Too bad. Raped by your brother? Whoops!

Does McCain think that women voters are stupid or something? For one she doesn't even represent any of the issues feminists actually care about, and for another, she was picked precisely because of her gender. If she had been Sean Palin they would have laughed her out of all ten of McCain's homes. Fine example of sexism in action right there. "Stand here and look pretty, dearie."

The only real strategy that I've heard that makes sense is that McCain is hoping Biden or some other surrogate will say something vaguely sexist and they can the just start the outrage machine up. But I mean, come on, the woman is embroiled in a scandal called "Troopergate," where she's accused of putting pressure on one public official to fire a State Trooper who just went through a messy divorce with her sister, and then when he didn't follow through on that, she fires him. The trooper sounded like a real creep, but still. Abusing your gubernatorial powers to fire your ex-brother in law? Sounds like corrupt Alaska politics as usual to me.

One more thing: The guy she picked to replace the guy she fired? Sex offender. Lasted two weeks before being forced to resign. Wah Waaaah.

People are inherently stupid... women, men... whatever. This won't fool the any of the smart feminists. More than that though, it'll really depend on how the media spins this nomination. Media spotlight has more to do with this than anything else. McCain could have just as easily picked a black VP had Hillary received the nomination. Same difference.

Are you saying McCain would have nominated Mushmouth or something? This is about that insulting.

Points for trying with the nihilism but you're forgetting that the same media you're projectile vomiting at get most of their news and spin from, guess who, the two campaigns and their surrogates. The media is largely just an echo chamber -- shout loud and long enough into it and they'll keep repeating what you say.

Edit: So my point is that the campaigns are the people who determine this stuff, so what the McCain camp is saying and what the Obama camp actually respond with are actually important. And it's fun to speculate about. Crying because some omnipotent media that controls everything decides the entire outcome is I guess one way to live your life but it's a pretty huge downer if you ask me.

Ignoring all the shallow politics and plays for disgruntled Hilary Clinton supporters (yes, ignore policies, the fact it's a woman is a perfectly legitimate reason to give someone your vote), how is this quote not deeply worrying:
Quote:
As for the prospect of her being vice president, Palin told Kudlow that she could not answer the question of whether she wanted the job "until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day."
Maybe this is just me, but reading that it sounds like she doesn't actually have a clue what the position she's running for is supposed to be doing. ::massive facepalm::

Beyond presiding over the Senate, casting tiebreaking votes when needed, and assuming the presidency should the situation arise, what the Vice Presidency does depends on what the President wants him (or her) to do. Some vice presidents (Dick Cheney, for instance) are granted lots of authority and responsibility within their administration, while others (such as Spiro Agnew) are kept as far away from anything as is possible.

The context given in her words after what you quoted suggests that Palin would not be interested in accepting the vice presidency if it meant being a nonentity.

I also like where she called Hillary Clinton a "whiner".

Maybe that's why McCain picked her. Between her and Phil Graham it seems like they're really trying to push this whiner line.

Since not a lot of you guys are Republican you don't know how brilliant this move really is. Don't read on if you don't want me to burst your bubble.

Whoops!
Exactly, and what is the activist base of the Republican Party made up of? Those very same nutcases! This has nothing to do with women voters. Unless you assume that women vote with their vaginas. McCain needs the evangelicals fired up so they'll donate their time and money to his presidential campaign. Without his activist base he has zero chance of touching Obama in the polls. Evangelicals who were less then enthusiastic to vote for McCain, and might've been planning to sit out the elections (or vote third party) will now have a reason to vote for McCain.

It gets even better for McCain. Obama has managed to alienate his activist base by voting the wrong way on the FISA bill, "moving to the center", and tapping Biden as VP. Biden has voted the "wrong" way on the Iraq War, the Patriot Act, the Bankruptcy Bill, the Drug War, and to top it off is a self-declared Zionist. The liberals and progressives will no doubt hold their nose and vote Obama, but they will not be as willing to donate their time, money, or enthusiasm to the cause.

McCain will still probably lose, but not in the landslide everyone expects come November.

Maybe this is just me, but reading that it sounds like she doesn't actually have a clue what the position she's running for is supposed to be doing. ::massive facepalm::
In this day of public relations, do you really think this gaffe was not intended?

This is McCain telling moderate Republicans and independents that he's not going to let this bible thumping bitch anywhere near the levers of power. She's just Jesus's little mascot. What the evangelicals don't know is that McCain will do just about anything to get elected. He won't need them when he is elected. Then when an election year comes around he'll go back to pandering.

It's basically the same thing the Democrats do.
You gotta stop that shit, Zoey!

Seriously, nobody's "bubble" is going to "burst" because some wingnut babbles out talking points about YOUR GENIUS PLANS. It's what you do, as a rule.

I was about to bring up the Evangelical extremists.

My dispshit mother-in-law already has my wife convinced that Obama is the antichrist. This VP pick will just seal the deal for anybody who's paying the least bit attention.

Gawd, look at those faces in the GoogleAd. I just want to slap them.

It is an interesting choice. I am not saying that it is a good choice, though. Sure, nominating a woman for vice president sounds like a pretty smart move. A lot of female voters - especially a lot of those Hillary fans - will be like "wow first female vice president ever, how awesome". Then again, a lot of the very, very, very (...) conservative voters will be like "what the fuck is this man doing, how can he nominate a woman".
I would have preferred Romney, but oh well, I am just glad that he didn't nominate some faggot like Giuliani

I really hope that the Democratic women aren't willing to sacrifice their ideals and their political stances just so they can see a women vice president as soon as possible. They would actually be betraying Hillary Clinton and the actual ideas behind her campaign if they would defect to Republicanism.

I hope people actually see how this thin this ploy is. (it appears that they do)

Palin electrifies conservative base

Palin electrifies conservative base - Yahoo! News

Quote:
By tapping the anti-abortion and pro-gun Alaska governor just ahead of his convention, which is set to start here Monday, McCain hasn’t just won approval from a skeptical Republican base — he’s ignited a wave of elation and emotion that has led some grass-roots activists to weep with joy
Instead of focusing on empty buzz-word issues, how about focusing on important essentials. The economy and the war in Iraq. It just blows my mind that people are more concerned with this polarizing nonsense...
