Actually to argue this, every other piece of text in the menu is in english. Eg: Information, Aerial, V Strike, Attack, Fire, Thunder, Defend, etc. There's even a spelling error, Blizzrad anyone? I mean I'd think a Japanese RPG wouldn't normally have that much english in it (I'd imagine they'd be in katakana if there are english words), especially for a menu system.

Anyway, I'm sure we're all in agreement that "Lightning" is definitely a name that's not meant to be. And that it relates to, possibly, weapon element.

I still don't see why they didnt give the names of either main leads in both FF13 and VS 13. I mean, unlike Roxas in KH2, I doubt the names are spoilers. They withheld Roxas name till its released for plot reasons, but since this is a new game, theres no reason to conceal the names.

There are no Ls in the Japanese language. Every L sound would be an R, try again.

Maybe Nomura enjoys self-sabotaging, if so her name should be Fulgur (latin for lightning).

That'd be so great. I'd buy 7 copies.

One of the reasons I think they won't choose "Lightning" is because it's just a too common word with too much "impact".
Cloud is a common word as well, but I thought it fit the character. It's one syllable and a five letter word, which is ok for a name. It's also not as "physical" as "Lightning". Cloud as a name makes a character more abstract than "Lightning" would do.
Squall is a rather uncommon word. At least, I have never seen it used as either a noun or a verb. I didn't even know it had a physical meaning until a few years ago.
But I thought Zidane was a misplaced name. It reminds me too strong of Zinedine Zidane, the french soccer player... but anyway.
I'll just stay behind you, okay?

I explained it to you but it didn't take. Well, no wonder you think "there are other gay names too!" is contributing to anything; you don't have any reasoning facilities, so you reckon we don't either. Thanks anyway for trying.

I think people need to learn that not all image hosting sites will host pics forever, its best to save them immediatly, and host it somewhere that you cna rely on. I use photobucket.

Alright, you seemed upset though.

No see I was just saying that there are examples out there of Japanese Games featuring english words/character names despite being in Japanese otherwise, probably has to do with the love of the english language by them (As some in english speaking countries tend to like French as its 'romantic',) because they (Japs) see the English language as stylish. What I don't like is the possible name of the character for FFXIII, "Lightning".

lol: Falgua? It sounds like the name of a town, not a person.

For name suggestions: How about something like "Tesla" as in Telsa Coils? XD
or (since I mentioned French up above), how about éclair? French for Lightning, and a name that HAS been used as a girl's name before (in an anime series called Kiddy Grade).

Eclair? Unless she's full of cream, and being the fanboys you all are, wouldn't you hope that were true, that name would be pretty silly.

Silly it might be, but Eclair is a lot better then Lightning. I suggested it because it was french for lightning.

Maybe you can suggest something better then?

Actually, I can't. That's why the character designers make the money they make, and I sit here, broke, trying to find the perfect screen to create my avatar from.

A. No.
That question is regarding the difference between Irvine's weapon (where you have to load a certain type of ammo) and Squall's sword. It's talking about gameplay conventions, not the actual weapon in their universe. Basically, it means that Squall has infinite ammo.

Meh, we've already got a Paine. So close spelling.

Then again, they did do Sephiroth, Seifer, and Selphie...

No, Because we already have Paine =p

--edit--
heh, Jazzflight beat me to it. ahh well.

But jokes aside, Rayne I could deal with. There are some other weather related names too: Dawn, Gale, Virga (Rain that does not reach the ground), Drizzle, Tidus (Tide of Water).

Interestingly, I disovered this little nugget of Trivia: Regen is a Dutch/German word for Rain, and considering that rain falls not all at once, but for a period of time, I suppose its fitting that Regen heals over time as well.
