Trailer. Looked like a CG Pre-rendered video but it was all real-time. Female main character, action packed. Motomu Toriyama is the director.

They're also doing a mobile game based on FFXIII that'll be multiplayer.

Quote:
2:02 Final announcement! For PS3! E3 is so damn exciting sometimes. What is it?!

FINAL FANTASY XIII. FINAL FANTASY XIII. They pulled a serious bait-and-switch on us. Sword-and-gun-wielding heroine who looks like Yuna, flipping her way around a high-tech, futuristic world. No idea what it was until the end when that NAME popped up. Yoshinori Kitase directing! This is the guy behind all the best ones--VI, VIII, VIII, X. Be still my heart.

2:08 Sorry, I jumped the gun--Mr. Kitase was merely presenting. Motomu Toriyama will direct the game. And apparently FFXIII isn't the only game coming out of this universe--there's a, uh, mobile game too. Oh.

More details coming!

Futuristic setting. Yuna-type with a gun and a sword.

Grab your raincoats, a flood of angry discussions is coming.

Of course the smart thing would be to wait until some screens and footage come up. Yep, that would be the smart thing....

Really? I figured the sales for FFVII & VIII would say otherwise?

The problem is it sounds similar to FFX-2, which apparently is the most hated of all FF's. The fact that she "resembles Yuna" is enough to piss off people, as we'll get to the whole debate how all of Nomura's characters look alike.

Whatever, I'm just glad 2 of my predictions have come to light so far (main female, futuristic setting).

EDIT:

See?

Also, does it matter? It's a futuristic setting with a gun-toting girl, with or without Nomura.

I don't care about the setting (which does sound cool BTW), I'm just sick of Nomura.

Wait, what? It's a seperate PS3 game from FFXIII? They're making a back-to-back sequel?

Quote:
Now it's Fabula Nova Crystallis--"the new tale of the crystal" in Latin. They're big on the Latin today. Whoa, wait, another new game? Another PS3 game?! Final Fantasy Versus XIII? They're emphasizing that in Latin, versus means "to change direction." This is a Tetsuya Nomura game, and he's taking the stage now.

2:17 Nomura is providing more details. The CG movie we just saw, featuring a spiky-haired character (natch) squaring off against machine gun-wielding soldiers, was created by the Advent Children team, but the game itself will be made by the Kingdom Hearts team, and will feature "extreme action elements." He says "bonding" will be the primary theme of the game.
I knew it. Reaction Commands, PS3 style. So saw it coming.

Spikey character-the Yuna lookalike? Or is it a male counterpart?

There are *3* Final Fantasy XIII games, 2 can be considered spinoffs...one is for mobile, the other is another PS3 title.

Some more on FFXIII.

Quote:
2:20 The conference draws to a close with a comment from Hashimoto that this should demonstrate Square Enix's commitment to next-generation gaming, but that it's "only the beginning." A final movie showcases the name Final Fantasy XIII, as if each new installment in this mega-enormous series is now a franchise unto itself.

Finally, Mr. Wada has retaken the stage. "How did that grab you?" Laughter and applause. Some more commentary on SE's commitment to supporting the next gen. Speaks more about the "synergy between products" being a proven formula with Compilation of FFVII. Looks like they're taking the same tack with FFXIII.

Some more info on FFXIII (can't type fast enough!): The game was begun by the FFX team for PS2, but the team was then derailed to make last year's FFVIII PS3 tech demo. They were so happy with the hardware, they decided to then shift development to the new platform. Apparently the game will run on the "White Engine" and will feature the most technologically advanced civilization ever featured in a Final Fantasy. The storyline will center on "those who resist the world." Yeah, okay.

Great. The first true polymorphic FF. Knew it was coming, but still...

Dammit, of all the E3s NOT to go to...

So basically they're turning FFXIII into a compilation like VII.

I really wish, for the sake of the setting, they'd drop the roman numerals and go with Final Fantasy 13. It just looks more fitting that way.

I'd rather have a girly girl than a girly man. I just hope it's not too much like X-2.

Can't wait for more info!!

I'm especially interested in "the most advanced civilization of any FF". The most futuristic city I've seen in any FF was Eshtar in FFVIII. I wonder how they could possibly take it even higher? Obviously this was done to show the insane power of the PS3. Not that anything's wrong with that.

I was thinking about this particular passage.

Are we certain "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" is an XIII-related game? It might not even be the official title, and instead it's Nomura's way of saying that his FF will be different from the official FFXIII.

Well Zanarkand was considered advanced in FFX. Don't know how it was compared to Esthar though. If they do do a futuristic environment, I hope it is a space travel game, or at least partly. I wonder how that would turn out.

I stand alone, the moon my only friend. I am neither angel nor demon. Just a lonely drifter, searching for freedom from this eternal war. Is there such a thing for a freak like me?

Here's hoping Naora is at least art director again. Zanarkand was awe-inspiring.
