[:plant:] Mother 3 (I Can Die Happy Now)

Ladies and Gentleman, you all know without a shadow of a doubt that you love Earthbound. Even if you feebly attempt to proclaim the game is anything short of sublime, you can recognize, deep down, your folly. Alright, maybe that's pushing it a little. But hot damn was that a fine piece of video game ass!

Anyway, almost two years ago now, its sequel was released in Japan and all of us english speakin' folks found out that we had gotten the shaft hard. There was no localization announced, and there probably never shall be. Luckily, we have fantastic fans like THESE providing for our ignorant, non-Japanese speaking asses. So there you have it. Beautiful, translated Mother 3 by the end of the week. By the end of the week!

I hope everyone is as happy as I am at this news. This is one of my most anticipated video game experiences of all time.

Let the discussion begin!
Never too old to kick some ass.

This does indeed look like the translation project to beat/end all translation projects. The attention to detail and accuracy sounds phenomenal! I still haven't completed Earthbound (...), but I'm about half-way through it right now and am absolutely loving it. I'll be sure to give this game a whirl after I finish!

Actually, I take that back. I should have totally gone the incest rewrite joke route. "OH MOM I AM FUCKING" "OH MY SON YOU ARE FUCKING".

But really, it will be nice to finally have it in english, especially since Nintendo seems to have decided to never return to the franchise in english. I really liked the first two and bought Mother 3 even though I can't understand a word. The box is just so cool.

Finally! They've been working on this translation since...what, 2005?

Maybe Nintendo will notice and finally give us some love!

Definitely going to play this, though, for free. If Nintendo wanted MY money for it, they would have brought it over here, eh?

OMG. I knew Mother 3 never came out here, but I didn't realize its being deliberately translated of right now. How fucking awesome is that. I also didn't realize its a "sequel" to Mother 2. I figured its somewhat a port/remake of Earthbound for gba. O.O'

So... speaking OF... should I play Earthbound Zero before I play Earthbound or should I just go and play Earthbound before this?

I was going to do a MOTHER 1+2 run before this came out, I guess I will just settle with this one I suppose.

It's not absolutely necessary, but I recommend it. Zero is a good game and it gives better perspective playing them in order. Zero also isn't that long of an RPG (though there is a lot of grindan at some parts).

I've been following the translation project with voracious interest for some time, so this patch is the culmination of a long, hard wait.

Does anyone care to post a clean checksum'd copy of the ROM what for patchin' purposes? The last fan translation I tried to install was derailed because I couldn't find a patchable ROM file.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ditto. :\ I went about google for a while, but blah. Torrents is the only way I suppose outside of buddies I may know that may have it.

Yeah. I can see why you would have missed that seeing as how 2 and 3 aren't consecutive numbers.

The translation site is calling it a sequel to Mother 2, but yet its an another Earthbound themed game. The series isn't sequential like any of those numbers (at least for 1 and 2), not that I'm complaining. Just wanted to make sure what the content is in Mother 3 really.

I've had a bit of vested interest in it, so perhaps I'll play. Sonic Chronicles is annoying the hell out of me and Castlevania comes out next week, so :/

BTW Qwarky, where do the cute chibis in your sig come from?

They're unrelated despite similarities. You could say Earthbound is an alternative retelling of Mother 1 because of similar characters yet taking place in a new world. However, storywise it's certainly a sequel. Either way, it's worth playing them in order. Plus Mother 1 has some completely awesome music.

It's a DS game called Kumatanchi, from doujin group Ashinaga Ojisan (same character designer as Habanero-tan), Dimple and Vanillaware. A friend of mine bought it for me on her trip to Tokyo, it's an extremely cute virtual pet style game. Tora-chan is awesum~
