Scanners

After buying a new computer, I realized one thing I had forgotten to get: which would be a scanner. I do art, and scanners come in handy since I do a lot of traditional art.
I'm currently looking for something that would cost me no more than 120 dollars or so.
I know I'd probably be looking to get a flatbed scanner, but as for all the technical stuff...I have no idea what means what. DPI? WAHHH?!

Would anyone want to guide me through this =\? If I'm just doing it for art (mostly black and white inkings, but sometimes paintings and such), does that change any of the necessary things I'd be looking at?
Or at the least, are there any brands I could depend on?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

In our world of artists we usually pray to our god, the Epson scanner.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

DPI is dots per inch. The higher the DPI, the more detailed the scan is going to be. For typical scanning duties, you would really only need around 300 dpi. But it's not a bad idea to scan at around 600, so you can resize the image to something smaller for quality reasons.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have an old Agfa snapscan e20 from 2001. It has never failed me, but i've been wondering lately ...

What benefits would I get from buying a new one nowadays ? I don't need A3, I don't need more than 500~600 dpis ... Has the scanner technology actually evolved that getting a recent one would really improve my scans ?
