On a somewhat related note (to load times), are the load times in Valkyrie Profile bad? I was thinking of picking it up, but a few reviews I've read mentioned an annoying load time whenever accessing the menu, which is one of those little things that I'm sure could be really annoying in an RPG.

Oh i second that question, and does it require you to have a 2,6 firmware?

How ya doing, buddy?

nope they are not that bad, they are yes noticeable but not that long and really the meny is probably the only long load time, I didn,t really notice anything in game really (some time when entering a battle it may happen, but not often, I even think it was already that way on ps1)

really valykyrie profile: Lenneth is almost a perfect port, go for it you'll not regret it

and yes it's a 2.6 firmware, I don't use any homebrew(?) so my psp is always up to date, but I heard that devhook can "simulate" the 2.6 firmware even on a 1.5, doN,t know if VP work well with it though...

@ Lacerta

I still need to pick up Legend of Heroes 2,KoP and VP. Since you say that there's been negativity on Blade Dancer, I should just turn that down and get LoH2.

As for Ys... I stopped playing the game where you gotta beat that big boss that throws all those stones at you. Other than that, the loading times are terrible, It takes almost 10-15 seconds just to get to the next part of the forest If you're lucky and want to get into a small house, It takes you 5-8 seconds @.@. The rest of the game is just fine with me. The music kicks ass in this game. So that prevents me from selling it back to the store.

Btw, Since i dont really care for homebrew or emulators. I upgraded to 2.80. There isn't much of a difference. Only a few things for the wifi and the location thingy.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The lag is only when switching maps (and leveling up) right? If so then I guess it's not THAT bad, although it might be bothersome. I bought Astonishia Story a while back and that thing had load times up the wazoo. 5 second load time to enter a battle, 5 second load time to load the battle, 5 second load time to play a sound in the battle, 5 second load time to load the move that you are going to do in the battle, 5 second load time after battle. 5 second load time between maps.

Okay so it really isn't 5 seconds all the time, but it can get up there.

Honestly, if the load times in Astonisha Story bothered you, then don't get Ys, as those are worse.

I had no problem with either AS's or Ys' load times, but like I said if it's that much of a bother to you, might as well not get either one. Kingdom of Paradise, however, has extremely few load times. About the equivalent of Daxter, if you've played that.

Well there's a difference if the load time is just between maps, instead of having to load for every single thing.

Maybe I just got a bad copy, who knows.

Although I didn't mean to come off as if the load times annoyed the shit out of me, I managed to enjoy AS even with it's need to load every few seconds, so I probably would enjoy Ys too.

I already have KoP and Daxter, so yeah I'm starting to run out of things to get :P

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Devhook can simulate 2.7 now, so there shouldn't be any need to update your psp at all!

It wouldn't be a bad copy at all ^^;. The port was just garbage and they never bothered to test the game. Y's (which i still play) has bad loading times even when you level up after one hit, it freezes up for 4-5 seconds and it goes back to normal.

If they plan to release more Ys games for the psp. They should at least check up on their mistake once in a while.

Regarding Valkyrie Profile - I also agree that the loading times really aren't bad at all. The only gripe some purists might find is that VP is a port of the Japanese version, so you won't get some of the improvements the American PSX version had.

Then again, it's great that we're given another chance at this rare game.

Ugh, it looks like DevHook has run into legal trouble from the dogs at Sony. This is stopping only a few sites from hosting DevHook, but it is still obtainable from a variety of places.

Quote:
With all the success of Devhook, I guess it was getting too uncomfortable for Sony on their comfy chairs. It seems that pspsoftware.ddo.jp, the actual release site of Devhook has received a Cease and Desist Order from Sony with regards to distributing Devhook.

Now my Japanese isn't something to write home about, so I'll leave it to 0okm, who has got the translation covered. Here's the translated text:

"Reboot_1.50.bin is the copyrighted material by SONY, that is mixed with DevHook0.43fix.
Warning from SCE to those who up-load DevHook0.43fix comes.
Moreover, please annul it at once when downloaded 0.43fix is preserved at hand, and it uses it.
Not seeing this knows and there is a possibility to use, too.
Please inform me of this when there is an owner in surroundings.
Moreover, the main body of DevHook and the relation file of all versions were deleted from this site.
As a result, opening DevHook on this site to the public is completely stopped."

Now you don't need to have a masters degree in English to make sense of that. Sony has taken action on PSPSoftware.ddo.jp for distributing Devhook and have also requested them to notify someone at Sony when the uploader (Booster) is online.

One thing's for sure, Booster will need to find a new place to host his awesome homebrew. But seeing this happen, I wouldn't be surprised if SCE/Sony start going after sites who are hosting Devhook. Well, let's just wait and see how everything pans out. A small suggestion by me would be to download the latest versions of Devhook as soon as possible, just in case everyone is forced to remove them off their sites.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
Love it.

Your copy of Liberty City Stories might be one of the newer, patched ones that don't allow for the exploit.

I'm just taking a wild guess here, but it's probably because this particular game is required for the exploit.

It wasn't "chosen". It's just because someone accidentally discovered this bug in GTA: LCS that allows for user code to be executed from a modified savegame.

It's very well possible that other games have similar bugs, but they have yet to be discovered. Mainly because everybody is focussing their developments on the GTA exploit ever since and it's working fine. They even have UMD emulation (ISO loader) for the eLoader working now, in case you can't downgrade your PSP.

I haven't bought a psp yet, but I plan on getting one this Xmas; I heard that if you use ISO loader instead of the UMD disc, it destroys your UMD reader forever? It sounds too ridiculous to be true, but I'd like to ask all you experts here for confirmation first, if this is indeed the case, I might stop collecting psp isos.

There was a similar rumour about PSX lasers dying when used with backup copies. Interestingly enough, there are people still defending this ludicrous theory. ;-)

Woo. All you haters can go out and get a PSP for cheap(er) now. If only that fabled $50 price-drop was true, then this would be quite the deal. With all of the bomb games currently in production for the PSP, might as well save some money, right?

...Yeah.

DevHook.

Basically it's a program that emulates up to 2.71 firmware, allowing you to play games that require 2.71. The easiest method to obtain this program "pre-made" (IE, bios and other things preinstalled) is to use BitTorrent.
