[PS2] Ace Combat Thread (a.k.a. We Do Not Have Air Superiority)

Before the downtime, I believe there was quite a lot of opposition to it.

The last Gamingforce meet took place at an Air Force base. We broke into a hangar and stole some FA-22s, and engaged in a massive dogfight. Unfortunately, one of my QAAMs malfunctioned and blew up before it detached from my plane, so I had to eject, and crash landed into a Wal*Mart. The others had to come find me, kind of like White Noise.

I was speaking idiomatically.

And here's the corroboration from GameStop. I'm so glad I put down a reserve deposit on this.

Yeah, they really fucked up on this one. The Japanese boxart was fine, but somehow, they've managed to mangle this just by moving certain things.

You could've clicked the link to Gamestop's page for it, but there it is. Looks like they centered the explosion and toned down the red on the whole. Still, something else looks off when compared to the japanese one.

In AC5, the japanese version had english talking and japanese subtitles, is it the same for ACZ?

Simple, they fucked up the principles of art. They moved the plane away from the perspective, so you can no longer focus on the action. The intensity (sharp contrasts) from the explosion is removed, so the grittiness of combat is removed. And the explosion only covered HALF of the box (dumbed down firework) All of that put together, a fucked up boxart. Fan-fucking-tastic namco!

If you've seen the boxart for the US version of ICO, then you have a point. But this is yet another example of unnecessary tinkering. What exactly were they trying to achieve? A far more eye catching case? Big, manly explosions?

On another note, what the hell, 18 missions? It's like AC04 all over again, and if it's anywhere as good, I'm going to be pissed since that game was like tasting the best food in existance... for about 2 seconds.

Good things could be that each missions is much more focused, with less of the pacifist retardo junk that Edge, Archer and Chopper spouted.

I just was informed that the japanese version of ACZ is exactly like the english version will be: everything, including voices, in english, with japanese subtitles.

The fact that ACZ is basing itself on AC04 proves that 04 was a better game than 5. Too bad I was right all along.

Like AC04, ACZ will also be less character-oriented, meaning that your actions will actually feel important in the game.

The Excalibur laser and Knights of the Round airspace is also brilliant.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that no matter how good ACZ looks like it is shaping up to be, none of the missions will come close to Operation Bunker Shot.

Remember Hideo Kojima once said, box art is ALSO a part of a game? Sure, I buy game for the sake of game, but I keep in mind that I am also spending a portion of the money on the box itself; therefore, I do believe customers deserve a decent box art whenever it is possible.

The box art for ICO is horrible. The game rules. The same can be said for We <3 Katamari, Dark CLoud, or pretty much any shmup outside of Gradius V. Sure, decent box art is nice, but it's not really the focus here. The box art could have goatse on the cover and I'd still buy it.

All of We <3 Katamari's box art is fine, disregarding the american version. I don't recall any shmups having bad box art, I'm sure if you posted some that would help greatly.

Oh and contrary to popular belief, goatse's box art is pretty good. I've played goatse, but it's pretty much only an average game.

keep in mind that he is an experienced developer and he knows what he is doing. I have never mentioned that box art should be a focus, but it is also a portion you are paying for. So let me guess, you would like to have your game wrapped within wet toilet papers, huh?
