What? No. You can wall jump up vertical passages with it in SM64, and I believe SM64DS added the slide type.

Anyway, it seems the Triple jump is probably taken out, just like the high aerial backwards jump was.

And as for the extra delay... well... it's only 6 days.

Hehe, yeah, shows how little I know about SM64. I only remember doing single wall jumps in it. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Sunshine had wall slide, and that came before SM64DS, so I'm going to assume NP was referring to this.

I don't think it's a good idea, I can't seem to imagine a scrolling Mario game with wall slide. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

How ya doing, buddy?

I'm pretty sure I remember him wall jumping in an early demo.

It probably won't be that big of a deal though, since only a fraction of the levels will probably have walls. I don't like they'll have Megaman X like slides though, where you can jump up the entire wall if you want to.

Double Post:
BTW, am I the only one whose interested in the music?

I've been wanting to get my hands on this game just to hear it.

A disappointing rumor has it that the music is remixed from previous Mario games. It's upsetting, but kinda predictable.

Yeah. What is there, like 88 renditions of the overworld SMB music?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah, just noticed the ship date was changed back to the 15th too.. wonder what this means in terms of the rumor that it was going to shipped the same time as the DS Lite.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's good for their business to market (and possibly bundle) the New Mario Bros. and the DS Lite together I assume?

A lot of times I think Nintendo basically just hypes up the games and then pushes it back inch by inch to keep people still trusting in them and keeping their console.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I don't get what you're saying. They brought the shipping date forward a week, not pushed it back a week.

My main gripe with the game was that I thought it would be too easy. Those screens make me think it will have some difficulty to it. But not too much.

The game has Lakitu in it. Lakitu is the antithesis of easy. Anybody who says it's easy to navigate platforms and avoid enemies while some asshole is throwing Spinys at you is lying.

*sigh* Lakitu. More old nemesis. I guess the game is going to be harder than I thought. I never like Lakitu. Such a distraction. I mean, who just randomly throws likes at you for no reason?

A question I have is, can you go backwards in the normal levels? Is it like the first Mario Bros where you could only go forward?

Since there are levels that have vertical scrolling, the question becomes irrelevant. Yes, you can scroll backwards.

It's just a mistake. I mean, if it was supposed to come out today, it would say now shipping, not Pre-Release. My guess is that it's supposed to say 5/24/06.

I'm annoyed by the general focus on the Giant Mushroom item. Those portions of the game look really boring (just run run run and automatically win), and it's bothersome that there's so much press about just that.
I really hope there's not as much focus on that item as there seems to be, because that'd be really shitty. The item is some crap item I'd expect to see in some terrible platformer like Crash or Jak, not Mario.
I don't think there will be, but the fact that they're showing it so damn much still worries me.

Frankly, I'm not as excited for this as I feel like I should be. But then again, I don't think I've seen anything worth getting excited over (I've been following news about it very casually). I may have to play it to "get it", though I'm not sure why. I've played every other Mario platformer, you think I'd know as well as anyone just by looking.

Ah well. I'm going to buy it on principle, and I don't really expect to be disappointed.

Looks like the main site has a video up. It shows some items being used, except for the blue shell XD

Of particular note of interest is the music. The overworld theme is not the SMB theme, it's completely different! Of course, the underworld music is basic as always.

I partially agree, however so far we've only seen it used in the very first stage. It's not like the giant mushroom is going to be in every stage. If it does become too much of a focal point, it could become boring fast.

and the Crash games are awesome what
