Of all the Anti Viruses to choose..
So, after a fresh format, Im still deciding which antivirus to stick on. I had AVG before but I found that it doesnt really do anything. So, from all the torrentable ones out there, which should I use? Norton? Panda whatever? Avast? >_> Mcaffe?
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Anything but Norton and McAffee, essentially. Or none at all, if you're reasonable enough (i.e. use Firefox/Opera/don't execute E-Mail attachments) and your computer is not used by anyone else.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
AVG's worked just fine for me so far. Mcaffee's worse than useless, and Norton eats more system resources than Windows itself. So avoid those two.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

Avast, AVG, Nod32 or Norton/Symantec 'Corporate' Edition are the ones which I would choose myself.
I personally use Avast because it eats the less RAM out of the four but otherwise AVG and Nod32 are both very good. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I like NOD32 and AVG. I mainly use NOD32, but I think my defnitions haven't been updated since March... need to obtain another install for it. I haven't tried Avast yet. I'll give that a go at some point.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I've personally never installed anti-virus software, and have never gotten a virus, but I have heard good things about Kaspersky from some of my friends.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I have, but never use, AVG. Maybe it doesn't "work" because you never get viruses. FELIPE NO |
It's crazy how some of you never get virus without some anti virus program.
I use Firefox, never open unknown attachments, and updated my Windows XP, yet I still sometimes get viruses. Though it's not very often. Maybe 2 or 3 a year at the most. Maybe it's because I'm on a college network that happens. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? Dance party! |

Also another scanning utility to note is Housecall by Trend Micro.
Its a fairly good online virus/spyware/malware scanner. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I only had 1 virus on my computer and I got it after visiting a site with Firefox on a bare windows install. So thats not exactly fullproof either.
As far as antivirus goes, use either F-Prot or Nod32. Both use very small resources and beat out other, more resource heavy antivirus tools. I found NOD32 to be more powerful overall, its my choice for antivirus. Stay away from Norton, its bloat city. I've seen computers with over 40 virii on them and Norton failed recognizing every single one of them. On top of eating hundreds of megabytes of RAM, its inefficient as well. Total junk. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Aright, so Im going with Nod32 then. Free? Is there a way to crack it?

Yes, but its tricky if you get the wrong crack. Basically you should never restart your pc after install. Crack it first, then restart. Get it, and I'm sure you'll never try another antivirus again.
Hell when I get a job someday, I'll definitely buy it from them coz they deserve the money. For now, I'd have to beg them pirates. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Hrm, I don't want to take my chances with the wrong one, so, care to point me to a torrent or other link that 'should' work?
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Does Nod32 have free virus definitions updates etc, or do you have to pay like after a year? Or is that what the crack is for, to give you free updates for life (or making your subscription date goto like year 2078 or so)?

I use Kaspersky myself and haven't had any problems since putting it in. It's nice and unintrusive and it has trapped a few buggers over the past couple months, so I guess that means it's working.

I use Symantec AntiVirus 10. I've always found Symantec Corporate to work really well, and my experience with it tells me that its less bloated than Norton AntiVirus and actually effective compared to McAffee, which never found any of my worms.
It's also easily shared and has free definition updates. Most amazing jew boots |
Nod32 all the way. It searches for new definitions several times a day without you even notice and it isn't a resource whore.
