Wild Arms(The series)
Whats yalls opinouns of this series?
Im fairly new.. I started with 5.. I think its kinda cool how every game is different, but every game is on filgaia.. and shares other qualities(like items, mediums, wild west themes) I beat Wild arms 5 with like 67hours, 4 with 25hours.. alter code f, am stuck at a boss Spoiler:
So i went back to 3 Its the only 2 i havent beat yet. It even had an anime, but it kinda sucked.. lol Jam it back in, in the dark. |

Sigh. I'll buy the Wild Arms series until it completely dies, just because I was so fond of the first three games. The second one is still my favorite overall, followed by the third game and the first one. But goddamn, Wild Arms 4 and 5 just couldn't do it for me. And Alter Code F just...I dunno, didn't replicate how awesome the first game was. They could've at least added a little vocal talent.
There are lots of RPG players on this board, and a good bit of them have posted in the Wild Arms 5 thread and have already played through it a dozen times, unlocked everything, etc. Maybe it's the hex-based battles or the completely uninspired artistry that turns me away. If they somehow manage the series onto the PS3, hopefully they'll completely rethink their strategy and, in what I think would be a fantastic move, break away from that hex battle system. Wild Arms 3 had it right, more so if there were awesome transformations like in Wild Arms 2. As for the anime, it wasn't all bad, but it wasn't necessarily Wild Arms. Sure, they were in Filgaia, used ARMs and crest cards, and the Crimson Nobles were around, buuuuut hey, it's a spin-off sorta deal. I liked it for what it was. There's nowhere I can't reach. Reading -- Bleach, Claymore, Chun Rhang Yhur Jhun, NOW, Zero: Beginning of the Coffin, Black God, Twelve Kingdoms (novels), History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi Watching -- Bleach Playing -- Fable II, Valkyria Chronicles, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Star Ocean: First Departure, LittleBigPlanet, MegaMan 9, Mirror's Edge |
Think they will ever remake 2? I think I read somewhere.. they want too.. but its at the bottom of there list.. so.. my guess would be the psp... since the ps2 is getting pretty old.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Barely played the first, played the shit out of the second, played the shit out of the third, didn't bother with the fourth, got halfway through Alter Code F, currently playing the fifth.
I'm a big fan of the series. They typically change each game's formula to a large degree, never making the series seems worn out. Here's hoping for Crossfire. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |

Crossfire's the one for the PSP, isn't it?
Most amazing jew boots Reading -- Bleach, Claymore, Chun Rhang Yhur Jhun, NOW, Zero: Beginning of the Coffin, Black God, Twelve Kingdoms (novels), History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi Watching -- Bleach Playing -- Fable II, Valkyria Chronicles, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Star Ocean: First Departure, LittleBigPlanet, MegaMan 9, Mirror's Edge |
Good Chocobo |
I've played all of them but only beaten 1 and 3 (and I only went through the latter because I had nothing else to play). They're okay games if you like their battle systems but I can't think of one memorable character (and their plots are laughable).
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I've only played through the third one so far. It seemed like the focus was more on the puzzles/battles/gameplay than on the story, which is what I'd rather have in an RPG. And they handled those aspects well, so I enjoyed it. Plus it has the awesome music.
I've bought WA4, but have yet to give it a shot. If I enjoy it, I'll go and grab five. Also, as soon as I can find the first two, I'll buy them too. FELIPE NO |
Just so you know, V is way better than 4.
You might come out of four, disappointed. . Id play V first, lol What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I enjoyed the first two Wild ARMs A LOT (LOTZ) and am currently playing the third WA. I watched my friend playthrough IV and saw that it sucked badly. Not only are there broken characters, but it's laughably easy and I saw that it didn't technically take place in Filgaia. IT JUST FLOATED ABOVE IT. >(
I heard from a lot of people that V was actually kinda good compared to IV. It used HEX still, but it's supposed to be more challenging and it actually takes place in Filgaia this time. I'll probably playthrough the IV and the V after beating a bunch of games that I own (seriously I can't keep track of the games I'm playing~) just because the first two (and three) sold me. And like SouthJag I'll probably buy this franchise until it dies. Jam it back in, in the dark. Currently Playing:Persona 3, .hack//G.U. vol 3, Wild ARMs 3, and Phantasy Star Universe (360). I will beat a rod until a tank empties~ Chocojournal |
Wild ARMS 3 is the only game of the entire series worth playing bye.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I love it! I love to solve puzzle in dungeon by using the character depend on the situation. Michiko Naruke style is helping this series stand out in it's wild west style music too, it's ashame that she didn't compose in 5 (I didn't sure).
I love Alter code F most, it has the best OST and very good in bringing good memory of this classic game. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
Sorry for being an idiot in GRAMMAR.
I don't use English as my first language. |
My opinion on Wild Arms? Not much really. The series is decidedly vanilla, contributing absolutely nothing to the genre. The remake of the original, Altar Code F or whatever it was had to be one of the most baffling productions in the history of videogames. I certainly cannot recall gamers howling for a remake of such mediocrity.

The alleged purpose of antitrust laws was to protect competition; that purpose was based on the socialistic fallacy that a free, unregulated market will inevitably lead to the establishment of coercive monopolies. But, in fact, no coercive monopoly has ever been or ever can be established by means of free trade on a free market. Every coercive monopoly was created by government intervention into the economy, by special privileges which closed the entry of competitors in a given field, by legislative action. ~Ayn Rand

I love the games mainly due to their attempts at a Wild West setting (although this is usually shattered towards the end, especially in the later two). The soundtracks are great, the most recent game's being my favorite in the series. The turn-based combat was pretty cookie cutter as far as the first three games go, but the HEX system used in 4 and 5 is one of my favorite RPG battle systems to date.
The stories? Nothing to write home about. They're as typical as JRPGs get. They're nothing god-awful, but there's nothing ground-breaking or moving. I don't go in expecting that, so I'm never disappointed. How ya doing, buddy? |
Good dependable RPG series indeed. Liked all of them so far, except ACF, I couldn't appreciate it, but I think that's only because it's a remake, so you already knew what was going to happen.
I can see why people didn't like WA4, I can't say I liked completely either. The main flaw it had was that it was so damn short, I mean really short, I think I finished it at 25 hours, if I recall correctly. I'm currently still playing WA5, nearing the end, and I gotta say, I'm loving this game, I expected it to be a good, but not great, like WA4, but it was the complete opposite. If it stays this good all the way till the end, it may become my my #2 favorite WA. Currently my favorites are still WA3 and WA2. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? Soldier: Prepare yourself, rebel scum!! Arngrim : (These slipshod soldiers think they can call me "rebel scum"?) |
What I love about Wild Arms titles is how they flesh out the bad guys. Sure, you have some villains that are batshit insane, but there were times where I felt really awful after killing an antagonist =( Not every villain needs a motive, but you sometimes sympathized with the bad guys, and it made the whole storyline experience (although structurally cookie-cutterish) very intriguing.
I never touched four, and I've seen my brother play five. The voice acting is atrocious and the removal of the anime intro is a step backwards. The opening/ending sequences added a nice finesse to the series for some reason. The combat looked awesome, though (hex grid stuff). Wish I could say the same for the music... Never heard #4's soundtrack, but 1-3 have freaking AWESOME songs. Change in composers = fail. Five (from what I heard of it) was bland sounding. I'm waiting for Crossfire. I've heard it plays like a difficult strategy game. VERY difficult =D Hope it gets released state-side (and soon). FELIPE NO
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

Wark! |
Played 1, 3 and 4, and the latter is easily my favourite. I'm not a big fan of RPGs so a lot of my liking it has to do with the fact that they ripped out a lot of the crap you usually find in these games. It was very stripped down, but I liked it because of that. Loathed the story initially, but after a while they started to touch on some more interesting subjects and it picked up from there. Could have dealt with its themes much better than it did, but did a decent job none the less. The battle system was great and so were the field sections. Jumping and sliding and such, it added a lot to the usually dull exploration sections.
As a whole the series is decent. I love the idea of a western setting for an RPG but when it comes to the execution I'd prefer if the magic and Si-Fi elements were left out. They completely destroy the Wild West feel the games rarely manage to attain. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'm absolutely smitten with the cheesy stories, stereotype-breaking characters (let me elaborate), constant referencing, and the presentation of each game in the series. Of course, all this must probably stem from the fact that Wild Arms 1 was my very first Playstation game ever and I was exceptionally pleased. Wild Arms 1 - Novel concept at the time with the selling catchphrase being the Wild West setting. I had thought the game would be stupid because I didn't like the whole cowboys idea, but it mixed RPG elements in so well that I grew to like the idea. Wild Arms 3 - Twin pistol female lead who has never picked up a gun in her life before, a male mage, three sets of recurring villain groups, and a terribly bittersweet ending to name a few things. Simply loved it and the gorgeous cel-shaded look. Wild Arms 4 - Overkill princess Raquel Applegate, feather flicking weakling Arnaud Vasquez, and the absolute most cheesy story I have ever heard in my lifetime of gaming until V came out. People complain all the time about HEX but I don't see what's wrong with it, especially since it allowed for some pretty cool options. The entire organization is pursuing these children and it resolves in such a ridiculous way in the end with another slightly less bittersweet ending. Wild Arms 5 - Officially the corniest story ever, with the execution of it all only reinforcing that point. The hex system this time around makes me keep playing it inexplicably and the fact that it has the Wild Arms name. Wild Arms XF - Eagerly awaiting. If the gameplay is half as good as the OST I'm sold. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I got all of them even tho I haven't played any of it yet. I gotta beat The Legend of Dragoon and I'll probably start playing one of the Wild Arms games.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Wild Arms 2 doesn't look that bad.
Play it on a Emulator or something to enhance the graphics. It makes the battle graphics less laughable because the models are very smooth looking instead of creepy jagged messes. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
You know for a guy thats owns every game from the Wild Arms Series I've only played Wild Arms 3.
I have to say I really enjoyed the game. The game was very well paced and there were tons and I mean tons of sidequests so they're were always lots to do in that game. I think I really enjoyed putting a lot of time in getting the EX Keys. I also enjoyed different groups of enemies and slight variations in the opening animation after you finished each and every chapter was always very enjoyable to see. I also enjoyed doing all the milennium puzzles. They definetely put your puzzle solving skills to their best use. I did invest a lot of time in finishing everything in that game and it was a very enjoyable experience. I look forward to playing the rest of the games of the series. If its one thing I really hated in that game was going against those aliens that had an attack that literally inflicted every status element on your party. I died from those guys quite a few things, but I managed to develop a pretty good strategy against them. I hope the games are just as enjoyable as they were when I played Wild Arms 3.
