![]() Welcome. Welcome to SAUS II. You have chosen, or been chosen, to nominate some random songs for an inconsequential tournament. I thought so much of SAUS II that I elected to establish my nominations thread here, in the subforum so thoughtfully provided by our benefactors. I have been proud to call SAUS II my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown, welcome to SAUS II. It's rock'n here. ![]() SAUS II is the 2008 edition of the Super Audio Universal Showdown, which was created essentially as a reaction to GFF's yearly Best Videogame Song Contest in the hopes that nerds will learn to appreciate music outside the context of their Gamestation 360s. ![]() SAUS II has a lot of rules. There are many events like it, but this one is mine. SAUS II allows any form of music. VGM is not banned from SAUS, it merely assumes a role of diminished significance and never gets many votes. SAUS II demands that you submit a list of 8 songs. No more, no less! SAUS II does not accept songs whose length is less than 1 minute or greater than 11 minutes. SAUS II does not endorse the cool crime of robbery. SAUS II does not accept songs more than once. If someone already nominated your favorite, pick something else. SAUS II has no "point" system, in contrast to the BVSC. Naming a song that has already been named wastes everyone's time. SAUS II does not accept songs which fail to meet even a minimal standard of being "musical". SAUS II does not use the term "musical" in the sense of "RAP? MORE LIKE CRAP!" but as a commonsense guideline. Tuvan throat-singing is music. John Cage's 4'33" is not. SAUS II does not accept songs which appeared in SAUS I in any capacity. SAUS II does not accept songs which have ever appeared in the top 16 of any BVSC. Again, this does not in any way constitute a wholesale ban on VGM. SAUS II does not allow a person's nomination list to contain multiple songs from a single artist. SAUS II does allow you to nominate your own work. However, see the rule directly above this one. You know who you are. SAUS II would prefer that you try to include multiple genres in your 8 selections, Do not taunt SAUS II. SAUS II asks that you provide mp3s of your songs. Failing that, name the specific albums on which I can locate them. The less time I have to spend hunting, the sooner we can begin. If you cannot produce an mp3 and none can be found, SAUS II has no choice but to reject the track. SAUS II hurls rule-violating songs into the void of space, where they will never be seen again. The empty space left by the offending song will be filled by the next (legitimate) song anyone proposes to fill it. ![]() SAUS II is painstakingly constructed for maximum efficiency and rock'n out. SAUS II requires 256 tracks. The original SAUS used 512 (plus tiebreakers!). This was way too much and the whole thing took an entire summer to finish. Fuck that. SAUS II is a single-elimination tourney. In each round, songs will be paired off and go head-to-head for survival via internet poll. Because no one wants to download 256 tracks, all songs will be playable in-thread via mp3 tags. Song submissions MUST be provided or located in mp3 format for this reason. SAUS II will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. SAUS II uses stable brackets, unlike last year's constantly randomizing brackets. While the initial brackets will be created at random, they won't be changed afterward. You will always know what challenges your track has ahead of it, and winning tracks can move ahead without delay. SAUS II handles tiebreakers more efficiently than SAUS I. There will be no tiebreaker rounds; the judge in charge of the relevant bracket will not vote on the songs in that bracket unless they must do so in order to break a tie. ![]() SAUS II requires a bare minimum of 32 nominating participants to function. Many of these 32 people will fail to read the rules in their entirety and will have songs thrown out, so don't despair if you show up late to the party: illiteracy has probably opened a door for you. TL;DR EIGHT TRACKS MINIMAL REDUNDANCY DON'T BE A DOUCHE GO! ADDENDUM: The following nominations have been FINALIZED. Your mp3s have been obtained, checked, and approved: do not edit your list. ok basically everybody ![]()

Why not? I've actually come across a few songs this past year and wondered "how'd that fare in a SAUS?" The answer is "poorly," but it must be established with full scientific rigor.

Fuck it. Portishead it is for my final track and here's the final tracklist. From now on your attitude should be, "Must be quiet for the time being. Will judge vicariously with extreme prejudice."
