Goldfish, I don't want to strongarm anybody but if you could mix that up a little bit that would be super.

Please see nomination thread now. I thought it WAS a decent mix, considering I was originally just going to do all Poison this year.

Or do you guys really want more Cyndi Lauper this year?

I could nominate a two-step tune, a jump up tune, an old school junglism tune, a hard-step tune, an intelligent tune and a mellow fade step tune but it'd still all be drum n bass. Are you genuinely that one dimensional that you only listen to one type of music? Also, based on your track choices, do you have long, slightly wavey ginger hair, glasses and a penchant for slightly faded t-shirts with the names of metal bands on, combined with slightly too tight jeans and carry your keys on a chain?

Goldfish, what don't you understand about the goddamned rules.

Why should we follow them and you don't have to?

*shrug* He said different genres.

Okay, then...If I put stuff that would be categorized "classic rock" or "hard rock" instead of "metal", would there be an issue? How about stuff like Black Sabbath or Deep Purple?

"SAUS II would prefer that you try to include multiple genres in your 8 selections, GOLDFISH"

Okay, so where are the boundaries between classic rock, hard rock and metal (in its' various forms)?

Maybe it's me, but if you're only into one real genre of music, maybe you shouldn't be participating in this.

Nice edit.

BTW, the original was done with the assumption that Shin's post was going to be it...Didn't know people would be so eager to jump in.

For anyone who cares, it said, "So you're saying you want more Cyndi Lauper this year"?

As long as it's not Maroon 5, I'm fine with it.

Look. I don't want to drag anybody around by the neck saying "this is ok, this isn't, this is" but:

Do you see how this constitutes an affront to the notion of variety?

All I'm asking is that in a similarly honest review of your genre selections that the word "metal" appear, say, no more than 4 times. I don't think that's unreasonable! I made this a guideline rather than a rule because I'm not personally a great judge of genre, but if you're going to be so thoroughly honest about it I can't really let it fly.

If Cyndi Lauper is your only possible alternative to this, so be it, but I don't think we have anywhere to go but down after "She Bop".

Goldfish.

So what you're basically saying is that all the music you like is performed by middle aged men with girl's haircuts playing masturbatory riffs on guitars and either shouting or wailing into microphones, to the extent that you can't tell why people would not consider "80's/hair metal" and "power metal" as different genres and that furthermore, the only music you can think of that doesn't involve permed mullets is Cyndi Lauper?

Goldfish, why are you still arguing this. Why don't you just take into consideration what everyone is saying, and revise your list a little bit.

(I hope you have more than just one Cyndi Lauper song which deviates from the basic "metal" genre. You'll need it.)

He can't because he's stuck in an 80's time warp where long hair, tight jeans and white trainers are still cool and being ginger isn't something to be ashamed of.

Well, that's why I asked what the boundaries for "classic rock", "hard rock" and "metal" were? If I nominate something from Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin or Guns N' Roses, is Shin going to go "WAH, need new genre! Not METAL!!!" Frankly, I think people are making a big deal over nothing.

Nominating something from Black Sabbath and GnR is absolutely fine, so long as your other six tunes aren't Metallica, Machine Head, Extreme, Bolt Thrower, Iron Maiden and Korn. We're not objecting to metal per se, we're objecting to everyone following the rule about including music from different genres except you.

This is particularly a problem when people have a few broad genres where they are experts at, so they can easily differentiate and qualify the uniqueness of the subgenres of the greater genre, whereas those not too familiar will tend to lump them in one bin.
