So some people hate guitar wankery, some hate thumpity-thump music, others hate it being sung in a different language, or have a melodious tune. It's too noisy, it's too quiet . . .

Probably is a good time to admit to ourselves that we aren't here to change minds either, and it's a battle of pet interests.

A good way to enforce "sound different" would be to stop people nominating the same things they did before. A lot of people are throwing up the same bands or singers as they did last year, but since they already used up the best material they have to fall back on the b-sides. That's why they're not using the "other song from that band" — they already did! Last year! I'm going to go do some comparisons, check just how many of you haven't brought anything new to the table

(Well, Shin will, because it's slow and you can't dance to it.)

As someone whose songs are generally getting the shit kicked out of them, I feel just as responsible as BZ or Muzza should. So, you know, sorry about that. I realize the mistake I made is in treating this like a mini-mix cd swap instead of a fierce competition.

I'll try harder next time, guyz. Pinky swear.

No, this is mostly the correct thing to do, which is why it aggravates me to see people putting forth the (more or less) exact same sort of things they put forth last year.

I mean, sure, nobody can guarantee anyone will find anything they LIKE in SAUS, but they ought at least to be able to find something NEW — and, well, I think at this point we all know how we individually feel about Zappa.

I'm not saying it's a bad track, but don't tell me you listen to something like Red Army Choir or Birdman Kicked My Ass on a daily basis. It's just something to show how 'cahrayzee'/eclectic your tastes are; i.e., doing the same thing as the people nominating showtunes or whatever, only ostensibly your selections were better (but that's a matter of taste, you can't really say that no one could possibly ever genuinely like a showtune).

Anyway, I guess the thing is, people have different expectations here. Some want to find new music that sounds like the music they already know, a few want to find music that's actually new to them, and others just want to bitch about everything that doesn't sound like their nominations. It's not so bad though, I'm still kind of enjoying the contest.

But I only nominated two dance music tunes.

I am loving the contest so far though. I've not had this much fun here in a long time, good work Pang.

I have to say, the best part is taking the piss on Mush and Aard. Never stops being a riot.

Maybe you'd get more recognition if you weren't always slacking off with your sick days and your family emergencies and your car accidents and your sudden-onset tuberculosis

Aw man, my joke nomination took a severe battering. And I've got more joke nominations to come, that are much more "funnier" than the last...perhaps I should just hide under my bed for the remainder of SAUS II. Yeah sorry guys I haven't been the greatest participant in this thing~

Actually, for a long time (and if I could get my collection back) I listened to Wesley Willis daily. He was fucking AWESOME.

No, Muzza should apologise. Those eight slots in the contest could have been taken by someone whose taste in music didn't suck huge donkey balls. I think it would be best for everyone if Muzza hid under the bed and didn't come out until just after the nominations closed for next year's contest.

And Moo, I was thanking Pang for setting the thing up, rather than the frankly administrative task of creating the polls, something I suspect even Capo would be able to pull off without making too many mistakes.

Oh okay, so now I'm only as smart as Capo now.

Nah, I see what you're saying, it's just that these threads take me 20-30 minutes to make each set of 8, so I kind of feel like "Oh, I guess I don't count" . I know that Pang appreciates not having to do all 128 threads for the first round alone, that should be enough for me~

But no, I'm an ATTENTION WHORE
