Listeners Admiring Better Internet Audio
In all this negativity surrounding the C.U.N.T.R.A.G. discussion thread I'd like to hear the other side of this argument. Yes, we get that some of us hate noodly guitar wankery and some of us hate BOOP BEEEP BOOP BOOP; we clearly covered (and are apparently still in the process of covering) how much we hate Goldfish and Muzza's music taste by now.
What I want to know is simple: Have you found a tune in this contest so far that you've absolutely loved? How about something new that you see yourself enjoying? How about that tune that weirded you out at first but now you're playing it in your car full blast and don't even feel ashamed? (I'm looking at you, D.A.N.C.E.-fiend~) Talk to me, kids. I'm here to listen. ![]() Please be advised, this thread is only to be used to inform us of what you LIKED. Keep the shitflinging in the other thread please or I will see that you find your way out of this one. |

Well, aside from any specific examples, I was looking at the stats on saxypunch.com earlier today and most of the tracks are seeing 60-70 hits apiece: there's an awful lot of repeat plays, and/or an awful lot of lurkers.
A lot of folks are enjoying the music, they're just being oddly quiet about it. ![]() |

So far a couple of great tunes I've liked are "Fish And Whistle" & "Handlebars". These are bands that are new to me as well so that ups the
value for me. As for songs that I liked but had already heard "Pagan Poetry", "Finished Symphony" and "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" are pretty good songs. I've also found myself going back to listen to a lot of these artists after having been reintroduced to them in this contest. Examples: Björk, RX Bandits and Mama Cass. Overall, guys, this is actually a pretty good variety we got on here. It's not all metal, it's not all indie rock, it's not all "techno" (yeah Shin, shoot me for all I give a fuck) and it's not all Zappa; it's a bit of everything and I, for one, am pleased with it thus far. PS. FUCK MIKE JONES.

So far, I've liked about one of every four or five nominations, which is on par with what I was expecting from SAUS.
Of that, only a hanful really stood out. Amongst them: Astro Can Caravan - Meteor Shower Geel The Flower Kings - Chicken Farmer Song Klaatu - Sub-Rosa Subway Midlake - Head Home Ray Lynch - Ralph's Rhapsody Spoon - You Got Yr Cherry Bomb ![]() Classic J-Pop Volume 22 |

Unfortunately, most tracks suck ass this year. The only two tracks I have downloaded so far (which means that I liked them) are "Birdman Kicked My Ass" and "The Ballad Of Bonnie And Clyde". The other songs I have listened to so far can go home.
I also downloaded my eight nominations again because they are so absolutely awesome; they are so good, you better have two copies on your harddisk drive! ![]() |

I hope Shin and I aren't the only one who noticed that that this thread is an acronym for LABIA. Just sayin'
I haven't been able to participate too heavily in SAUS this year, but I plan to catch up tonight and tomorrow. ![]() |

So far the only new song that's caught my interest is the Bjork song. But
i) i'm not even half way through the pairings yet ii) it's usually in the later rounds that songs start to finally catch for me, just from having to listen to them so many times (unfortunate for the early losers)
Music is a mysterious thing. Sometimes it makes people remember things they do not expect. Many thoughts, feelings, memories... things almost forgotten... Regardless of whether the listener desires to remember or not.

Having just finished round 1 voting, I have to say I'm pretty pleased overall, although I seem to be the more forgiving sort. Er, well, you know, as far as the bell curve goes among the fifteen or so of us actually participating. Some of you fuckers are particular.
Narrowing down what's really stood out to me, though, not too tough. The three best songs in the contest, without order because I have no idea which ones I enjoy more, they'd be Go-Betweens - Love Goes On!, Jens Lekmen - A Postcard To Nina, and Afrocelt Soundsystem - When You're Falling. All outstanding tracks that I could listen to all day. Plenty of runner-ups that I haven't been able to stop listening to. Both John Prine songs are completely charming. The Tenhi song Vähäinen violetissa has a compelling soundscape to it, I seem to be in thin company with that opinion, though (same deal with Mr. Bungle - Pink Cigarette). Great Lake Swimmers - Your Rocky Spine may be kind of corny, but still enjoyable. The performance in Alice Donut - Lisa's Father makes the song work to be funny. It could have easily fell flat. Oh, and I don't want to forget Belle And Sebastian - Funny Little Frog. Awesome rhythm. Speaking of, Justice - D.A.N.C.E., just plain addicting. The Builders And The Butchers - Bottom Of The Lake, great driving beat to it. Favorite instrumental piece, Bireli Lagrene, Gipsy Project - Songe D'Auto. Don't really know how to classify The Avalanches - Electricity, but I loved that one too. Really hate it when some of what end up being my favorites match up in the first round. Man Man went up against Soil And Pimp Sessions. Ween against Vampire Weekend. Beirut vs. DeVotchKa. Those were total coin flips for me. I've enjoyed about every rap selection put out there, familiar or new. RJD2, Madvillain, and Flowbots are all artists I'm itching to check out now. Also a few songs that are old favorites floating around in there (Smiths, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bowie, Fine Young Cannibals, Elliot Smith, Ice-T, and so on). Good stuff. ![]()

There's actually been a few that I really dug on.
Blonde Redhead had a track, I forget the name of it, that really impressed me. As did the Spoon track. Handlebars from the Flobots, too. There's been a handful of really, really good stuff so far. |

I've fallen behind on actual listening because of threadposting and general lack of free time, but I fucking LOVE Fish and Whistle. Ponteio, Meteor Shower Geel, and Chicken Farmer Song are also amazing.

I've finally listened to all the craptastic stuff you guys put forth. Yet amongst the refuse, there were several tracks worth keeping and enjoying at later dates.
I will list them in no particular order.
To whomever nominated these songs, good on you. If you didn't nominate any of these tracks, shove the hell off. |
