This week on Virtual Console US (7/2):

Ecco: The Tides of Time (Genesis)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (US) (NES)
Oh look, two games that have been released multiple times! Thanks, Nintendo!
Hard to believe it was just 5 seasons...

Considering the time of SMB3's release the game really should have had a save function. SMB2 is a much quicker game so I can forgive the lack of a save system.
So true. I did play the GBA version of SMB3 and the save feature made it much more enjoyable. The only way I got much mileage out of the NES version was to make liberal use of the warp flutes.

This week on Virtual Console US (7/9/07)

Dragon Spirit (TG16)
Yoshi (NES)
Mach Rider (NES)

The hell? I wasn't aware of a Yoshi game on NES besides Yoshi's Cookie. Meh, they don't appeal to me anyway. Another bad week.

Yeah. Like Yoshi's Cookie it's a puzzle game, but it's a different concept and has absolutely nowhere near the replay value. Maybe fun for a quick jaunt in emulation land, but I can't say it'd be worth even the $5 in VC-bux.

Apparently the SNES just doesn't exist anymore.

Of course not. Why would they want to put something up from a system that did REMARKABLY well?

They're too busy porting SNES games to GBA.

srsly, where is the Super Metroid love? Mario/Zelda have like... 5 titles each, but still ZERO for the metroid series... :-[

I'm also waiting for paper mario... I've been wanting to replay that game, but apparently it's really tough to emulate, and my N64 broke years ago.

I could see a huge metorid plaster. They release the metroid game for wii...then all of a sudden, all kinds of metroid games come out for VC...

then...Nintendo drops the ball again

When Paper Mario comes out, I'm not sure if I should re-download it again. I mean, I have a working N64 and the game itself, but I dunno if I should fork over the 10 bucks just to get it for convenience... I'm thinking I should since I already downloaded Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, and Zelda: OoT (I never had OoT).

Anyway, while anticipating the release of Paper Mario, I've been looking for another game to download for a while. I need some community input...

So far I have:

The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)
Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Star Fox 64 (N64)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

Any ideas?

Donkey Kong Country 2 is much better than the original, imo. If you like DKC and haven't played number 2, definitely go for that one.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja is one of my favorites, but I don't know if I could recommend it... Might be one of those things that's only good if you experience it with a little nostalgia, know what I mean?

Well, I wanna finish up DKC before I download the second one. I don't see that happening anytime soon, so it will be some time before that ever happens...

I was thinking of ActRaiser... But besides relying on a review, I have no other background info on it. If anyone has actually played it, can you give me some sort of mini-review on how it is? I don't trust GameSpot half the time.

PunchOut! is an option, since I've never played it before in my life. And as tempted as I am to download SFII: Turbo, I already have the Anniversary edition, so it seems a little unreasonable. <_<

Ugh.

Actraiser is one of the best games ever made for the SNES. Half the time is spent in a fairly decent platformer hacking and slashing your way through and the other half is spent in a Sim Cityish build mode where you help create towns and solve their problems.

I've probably played Actraiser more times through than just about any other game out there.

I'd have no problem forking over $20 for it if I had never played the game.

I missed one last week called Air "Zonk" (TG16). Sorry about that. Alright you Nintendo 64 and Paper Mario people, prepare to shut up. I believe you're gonna be VERY happy.

This week on Virtual Console US (7/16/07):
Balloon Fight (NES)
Silent Debuggers (TG16)
Paper Mario (N64)

Never played Paper Mario, but it looks like I might give it a try. Hope you guys are happy.

Woot! Paper Mario, one of the best RPGs in the Mario series and on the N64.

DEFINITELY worth a download, Sonic.

About fucking time. Now let's get Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario Bros. 3 on the VC and I'll have my Mario set complete. The only other Mario games I'd plan to buy after that would be Super Mario Kart and possibly Mario Tennis. Perhaps this time next year. Perhaps.

Silent Debuggers looks interesting, but in the end probably not worth the price. I found a good review site (it may have been posted somewhere before, I don't recall) for TG-16 VC reviews: http://www.virtual-turbo.com/ It seems to be consistently updated with full reviews of games.

After seeing some screenshots of Paper Mario I'm kind of excited about this download. It seems to have more of an old-school Mario flavor than TTYD did.
