[360] Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD
Looks like Capcom are finally going to release another Xbox Live Arcade game. This time it's going to be Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Before anyone complains about lack of SFA3, note that they're going to be redrawing the sprites, in HD. It seems they've got artists from Udon Comics to draw it (the folks responsible for the street fighter manga). This bit's a ripper:
In a slide on display during the conference, Capcom showed character sprites from an older Street Fighter game and Guilty Gear next to the projected quality of what the company is looking to create with this HD Remix version -- which in the slide simply looked like hand drawn artwork. The point behind it all is that the company intends for the visuals to be the next step up from Guilty Gear as 2D fighting games go. http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cI...2&sec=PREVIEWS ![]() |

I just noticed that when I doubled checked. Man. Capcom is all about milking Street Fighter but in a good way. Puzzle Fighter I'll get for sure. Probably both although I have to decided which version to get now. 360 or PS3 version. (Probably PS3 because the d-pad is hella better).

Puzzle Fighter will have Devilot... Gotta love her. Also, remember that after Puzzle Fighter, the next tiny step is Pocket Fighter, a superbly hilarious game.
I'm not sure if Udon will work for this. I mean I love their art, but its better suited for comics and pinups, not games... we'll see how it looks in action, animated. But anyway, what they need to do is redo Vampire Savior (a.k.a. Darkstalkers 3) in HD. Morrigan has been using her 1994 sprite since decades by now, and Darkstalkers is one series where Udon nailed the absolutely perfect art style. |

Orgasmic slide, just for you.

I guess after people seeing Guilty Gear, this was the next logical step for street fighter since they made a pretty big fuck up of the 3D games, and their last game Fighting Jam... I've seen better character rosters on fanboy mugen games! Does this mean Capcom vs Sammy could still be on the cards though I wonder...

I was really excited about this until I saw the HD slide. Urgh, why Udon? They are mostly talentless hacks. Bengus, Akiman and Edayan, where are you? ;_;
I guess it's better than nothing, which is what Capcom was promising us before... But I'm going to be cautiously pessimistic until I see some evidence that this isn't gonna be shoddy. ![]() |

That slide that was shown is mentioned in the article I linked. They said that it was just an impression, so I'm guessing the final product will look quite different. I'm not sure though.

Wow. I'm very interested in this. I'm very happy to hear that they want to keep a great 2D style. UDON sprites are going to be great. I wonder if they're going to keep the trend of 2D characters imposed on 3D backgrounds?

I love the Udon work.
My ponder is this: We know the sprites will look amazing and high res. But how about the animation? Will it be appropriately fluid? For a game that was only just recently started, will be download only, and that will be in 1080-freakin-p, I can't imagine they will actually have the frames of animation to make it all very fluid as they'll have to draw every single one. Which will make it look odd and jerky, like old Mortal Kombat in the arcades. Obviously, I'm hoping to god I'm wrong.

Also, aside from the animation (very important point), I also hope they chose to update the system a bit. I mean, sure, I loved SSF2T, but the controls will feel a little dated compared to the newer Street Fighters. With any luck, online play won't just be a cheap-fest!

To be fair the game so far has only been shown being played on the 360. So if the case was the same here then it's no wonder they sucked when your only gameplay choices are either an analog stick or a 1piece D-pad. I know that I would suck using either of thoes too. ^^;
